Marvel Reveals Scarlet Witch Variant Covers for the Trial of Magneto

Warning: contains major spoilers for X-Factor #10!

The Trial of Magneto is coming soon and Marvel has revealed Scarlet Witch variant covers for it. This series will consist of five issues dealing with the fallout of X-Factor #10‘s big reveal. The covers are all for the first issue and they are sensational.

At the end of X-Factor #10, Scarlet Witch was revealed to be dead. This was a huge development since mutants are not allowed to kill humans, per Krakoa’s rules. Killing an Avenger is an even bigger issue and now, Magneto will be on trial as it is believed that he killed her. This is a highly anticipated turn of events, warranting a flood of variant covers to mark the occasion.

Marvel Comics has unveiled two of the new variant covers for The Trial of Magneto #1. The full cover for the first issue has also been revealed. The main cover is by Valerio Schiti. The two variant covers unveiled so far were created by Stanley “Artgerm” Lau and Elizabeth Torque. Both variants prominently feature Scarlet Witch, who has been riding an increased wave of popularity thanks to the Disney+ original show, WandaVision. Check out the covers here:

Stanley “Artgerm” Lau’s first variant for this issue features Scarlet Witch in sparkling, mystical action. She is using her magic and looks absolutely gorgeous with a haze of purplish-red tint overlaying her. Artgerm will also have a “Virgin Variant” that has yet to be revealed.

Elizabeth Torque’s variant also features Scarlet Witch alive and well, though with a much more captivating glance that is directed front and center. She is being encircled by her cape, which ends in an “M” resembling her headdress. She also has flamelike tendrils of magic circling around her in pink with yellow trim. Other variants will be done by Mark Brooks and John Romita Jr.

Written by Leah Williams with art by Lucas Werneck, The Trial of Magneto has been on the minds of X-Men fans since it was revealed. Previously, the only thing known was that Magneto would go on trial for the murder of an unknown victim. Now that Scarlet Witch’s death is confirmed, Marvel can finally release the full covers that had only previously been teased.

Scarlet Witch has a long history with both the X-Men and the Avengers and her death is sure to cause a lot of friction between the two groups. Her history has also had numerous changes. She was previously the daughter of Magneto and a mutant herself, though this was revealed to be false. Now, questions of her origin have returned, particularly since this is referred to as a “major turning point in her complex history with Magneto and the X-Men…” Fans will have to wait until X-Men: The Trial of Magneto #1 releases in August to find out what really happened and what it means for Marvel’s heroes. In the meantime, they can enjoy the marvelous artwork of Scarlet Witch being released ahead of the latest major event in the X-Men’s story.
