Marvel Proves Juggernaut Would Be Powerless Against One DC Superhero

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Legion of X #2!

Last week, Marvel revealed the perfect counter to the Unstoppable Juggernaut‘s powers, and in doing so revealed which DC hero could similarly defeat Cain Marko. The man of mythic strength has been a force for good of late and has recently been permitted entry to Krakoa while he is a team member for Nightcrawler’s peacekeeping Legionaries. However, it’s helpful to have balances in place to maintain the team members’ accountability whether Juggy is in the Marvel universe or over at the Distinguished Competition.

This is exactly the case in Legion of X #2. Created by Si Spurrier, Jan Bazaldua, Federico Blee, and VC’s Clayton Cowles, the issue finds Juggernaut briefly possessed by the elusive Skinjacker. Cain Marko’s powers are a clear threat in the enemy’s hands not only to his team but to the rest of Krakoa as well. Thinking quickly, fellow Legionary and gravity manipulator Lost is able to suspend Juggernaut mid-air, and the lack of gravity robs him of his momentum. This effectively both erases Cain’s powers and any threat the Skinjacker poses while in possession of his hulking form.

Forget the age-old quandary of unstoppable forces pitted against immovable objects, it turns out the key to halting a Juggernaut rampage is creating a weightless environment that saps his momentum. While Lost, also known as Marinette, has the situation under control in Legion of X #2, there’s one DC hero who is suited to handle the Juggernaut in a similar manner. That’s right, DC’s perfect counter for the Crimson strength of Cyttorak is the Scarlet Speedster himself: the Flash.

To be clear, Barry Allen does not have gravity powers that he’s kept secret from readers. However, the Flash could create a weightless effect by generating a vortex around the Juggernaut. Arguably the effort would be a bit more intense and the outcome less elegant than Marinette’s unique power set. But in both situations, Juggernaut is robbed of his momentum and is thereby powerless. To put it less delicately than the Flash might, Marinette remarks “unstoppable has no meaning if there’s no direction, asshat.”

It has been decades, so perhaps one can only dream of another true DC/Marvel crossover comic event. And yet, anything is possible when superheroes are involved. So if Juggernaut ever has the chance to face off against a DC hero, he had better hope it’s not the Flash who answers that challenge. To see just how powerless Juggernaut would be, make sure to pick up Legion of X #2, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
