Marvel fans have begun a campaign to convince Netflix to renew Daredevil for a fourth season. Anyone who has been following the streaming service’s Marvel lineup got a shock this year as both Iron Fist and Luke Cage were cancelled. While Daredevil got a third season, there has been no word yet if Netflix will renew it for a fourth. Netflix typically renews its shows shortly after the previous season ended. So with each passing day, fans of the show are growing increasingly concerned that season 3 may have been Daredevil’s last.
Daredevil season 3 had a steep hill to climb in redeeming both the show and the titled hero. By the end of season 2, Matt Murdock’s (Charlie Cox) life was in tatters. He later ‘died’ in The Defenders in order to save New York City. But he lived to see another season, one that brought the show back to basics. Season 3 sent him on a journey of self-discovery where he reunited with his friends and was once again pitted again Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio). But while the season was a triumphant return in terms of story, it was not as successful in terms of viewership whose numbers declined.

Concerned that the show could be next on Netflix’s chopping block, a group of fans has started campaigning for Daredevil to continue. On the official Twitter account for the #RenewDaredevil fan campaign, there is a request for fans show their support on social media beginning on November 30.
Netflix has always been rather secretive about providing viewing figures for their shows, making judging how successful or unsuccessful a show is. A rare look at the viewership data revealed the Marvel Netflix shows have been losing viewers for years. Iron Fist and Luke Cage faced steep drops in viewers between seasons 1 and 2, which likely played some part in the decision to cancel them. Rumors regarding the cancellation of Luke Cage state the were “creative differences” between Marvel and Netflix as well.
While Daredevil fared better than Iron Fist and Luke Cage, it too struggled to keep viewers interested. Netflix has indicated nothing either way but the continuing drop in viewership could lead the streaming giant to turn their attention elsewhere. As there has been no definitive cancellation, there’s no harm in letting Netflix know the fans are still invested in the show’s future. Fan campaigns have saved shows before, even those that have supposedly gotten the axe, like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Expanse to name a few. So when fans begin expressing their support for Daredevil later this week, Netflix could very well take notice.
