Mark Wahlberg’s Dream Of Remaking Classic ’70s Show Gets Disappointing Update In New Report

A new report gives a disappointing update to the production of The Six Billion Dollar Man. Set to star Mark Wahlberg, The Six Billion Dollar Man is a remake of the TV series The Six Million Dollar Man. The Six Million Dollar Man TV followed the story of an injured nuclear test pilot who is rebuilt with bionic limbs and implants. The series originally ran for five seasons across 1974–1978.

As per a report from TheWrap, The Six Billion Dollar Man’s most recent update does not look promising. According to the source, The Six Billion Dollar Man does not yet have a studio. This, they said, contradicts the fact that “Wahlberg has publicly said that Skydance is in the mix.” Check out the full update from TheWrap below:

“While Wahlberg has publicly said that Skydance is in the mix, TheWrap can confirm that Skydance and Wahlberg do not have a deal in place, countering the actor’s claims from December.”

The Six Billion Dollar Man’s Confusing Development Explained?

Mark Wahlberg’s Dream Of Remaking Classic ’70s Show Gets Disappointing Update In New Report

As alluded to by TheWrap, this update directly contradicts Wahlberg’s most recent update on The Six Billion Dollar Man. Back in December, Wahlberg seemed much more positive on the Skydance deal, saying that they would have the rights to the film “very soon,” kick-starting the production on the film. While Wahlberg did not say that the Skydance deal was finalized, he seemed to imply that it was certain to happen. Seeing as it is now February and the latest on the deal is that it is reportedly not in place, Wahlberg’s optimism looks far more misguided.

In his December statement, Wahlberg also referenced the “uphill battle” it has taken to make The Six Billion Dollar Man. The fact has been evident not only in the most recent update, but throughout the production of the adaptation. An adaptation of The Six Million Dollar Man was first floated in the 1990s. Wahlberg became attached to the project about a decade ago, but the development has been slow ever since.

In that time, The Six Billion Dollar Man has cycled through multiple directors. It was even briefly on the release calendar for 2020, until Warner Bros. removed it due to further delays. With still no studio attached to The Six Billion Dollar Man, it seems that the fate of the film is yet again uncertain, despite previous hope from Wahlberg.
