Margot Robbie‘s portrayal of Harley Quinn in the DC Extended Universe is regarded as among some of the best performances in comic book movies, but it’s become apparent that the actress likely won’t reprise the role in future projects, and, thankfully, Robbie is reportedly working on a different film inspired by comics. Robbie has been quite busy in recent years, and given that she was already an accomplished actress before Barbie was released in 2023, Greta Gerwig’s $1.4 billion box office success made Robbie even more in-demand. She has several projects lined up, including the aforementioned comic book movie.
Robbie starred as Harley Quinn in three DCEU films — Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), and The Suicide Squad. Now that the DCEU is over following the takeover of James Gunn and Peter Safran as co-CEOs of DC Studios, Robbie is ready to pass the Harley Quinn baton to a new actress. Of course, the actress could theoretically change her mind and reprise her iconic role in future DC Universe projects, but it seems Robbie is done with Harley Quinn for now. Margot Robbie Has Reportedly Signed On To Produce Avengelyne
According to Deadline, a movie centering around the comic book character Avengelyne is currently being shopped around to different film production and distribution studios. Margot Robbie is attached as one of the producers through her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, alongside her co-founders Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara. Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon from Genre Films are also on board to produce, with Olivia Wilde set to direct Avengelyne. Since the film is still in its early stages of development, not much else is known about the project (nor has anything been confirmed outside of sources with insider information).
Avengelyne would be the perfect movie to replace Harley Quinn for Margot Robbie (if she plays the titular character), as it could grow to be its own comic book franchise. Rob Liefeld (who co-created Marvel’s Deadpool) and Cathy Christian created Avengelyne, who first appeared in Maximum Press’ Avengelyne: Deadly Sins #1 in 1995. She has bounced around different comic book publishers in the years since, with the most recent being Image Comics. Avengelyne is a fallen angel who, unsurprisingly, fights the forces of evil as the most feared warrior in Heaven’s Warhost. Her powers and abilities include super strength and telekinesis.

So, only time will tell if Robbie decides to play the fallen angel in Avengelyne (if the reports are true) or if she and the other producers will look to other actresses while casting the role.

Consequently, Robbie could do the same with Avengelyne, who is significantly less popular than Harley Quinn and would likely need a well-known actress to play her. Since many have never heard of the angel, the producers need something to pull the masses in, like Robbie being the face of Avengelyne.

Outside of her history with comic book adaptations, Robbie is simply a phenomenal and well-rounded actress. She has been nominated for three Oscars — Best Actress for I, Tonya, Best Supporting Actress for Bombshell, and Best Picture for Barbie — and has won numerous prestigious awards for her work in front of and behind the camera. Robbie could undoubtedly give a critically acclaimed performance as Avengelyne (if the rumored movie ever sees the light of day) and make the project bigger and better. However, the conflicting reports aren’t making Robbie’s chances of playing the comic book character look good.

Everyone reportedly attached to the live-action film based on Avengelyne has an impressive history, meaning that the project is seemingly in good hands and has the ingredients to be successful. Additionally, Deadline claimed that an “A-list writer” is being scouted to pen the script, but their identity is unknown. Ultimately, it might be a long time before any other information surrounding Avengelyne is released or before the main character is cast, whether Margot Robbie or a different actress is playing her.
