#MakeTheBatfleckMovie Trends on Twitter as Fans Rally for Affleck’s Batman Return

Fans campaign for Ben Affleck’s The Batman film to be made with #MakeTheBatfleckMovie trending on Twitter. On the heels of his most recent appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, there’s a renewed interest in the scrapped solo movie with the actor. This is despite Warner Bros. having a DCEU-separate film about the Caped Crusader from Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson.

Affleck’s casting as the iconic DC superhero was initially met with backlash from fans who couldn’t see him bringing the character to life. He, however, proved naysayers wrong when he debuted in 2016 via Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice; while the film was criticized for a lot of different reasons, his portrayal was surprisingly praised. Unfortunately, despite the acclaim, rumors started swirling that he wanted out of the DCEU. Speculations continued even as he starred in Justice League, which is known for its troubled production. This created confusion as to the status of his The Batman solo project, which he was initially supposed to write, direct, and star. So, when it was finally confirmed he was officially out of the DCEU, Reeves and Pattinson took over the project.

Now, following his appearance in the Snyder Cut, fans are pushing for the scrapped project with the hashtag #MakeTheBatfleckMovie currently trending on Twitter. People are citing different reasons why Affleck’s The Batman movie needs to happen, although both Warner Bros/HBO Max and the actor have yet to respond. Check out some of the tweets below:

It’s worth noting that part of the reason why Affleck decided to leave the DCEU is because of his frustration from the constant pressure and uncalled-for comments while playing Batman. This was made worse by the bad experience on the set of Justice League when Snyder left and was replaced by embattled director Joss Whedon. Since his exit, story details about his scrapped The Batman project have steadily leaked, including the fact that it was going to feature a Batgirl vs Deathstroke fight. With the Snyder Cut restoring its original stinger setting up the aforementioned project instead of Legion of Doom, people are motivated now more than ever to see Affleck’s Caped Crusader in his standalone blockbuster.

So, what are the chances of this actually happening? It’s difficult to say at this point. The #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement proved that fan campaigns have a possibility to succeed. However, there are currently many variables to consider when talking about greenlighting Affleck’s The Batman. For starters, Warner Bros. has the Reeves and Pattinson version of the project that is due in 2022. Granted that it’s set on Earth-2, Affleck’s iteration simultaneously existing could be confusing for the general public since the concept of the multiverse has yet to be properly established. Finally and the most important variable here is Affleck’s thoughts on the matter. Even if the fans and the studios want to move forward with the idea, #MakeTheBatfleckMovie won’t happen if the actor isn’t onboard.
