An epic new Magik cosplay unleashes Marvel’s ultimate mystic weapon in all its glory. One of Marvel’s fiercest warriors, Illyana Rasputina, also known as Magik, combines a mutant teleportation ability with powerful sorcery, making for a lethal combo. In addition to her mutant powers, Magik wields the mighty Soulsword. This giant, glowing sword is one of the most powerful magical weapons in the Marvel Universe and now cosplayer poppylop_cos has brought both Magik and the Soul Sword to life.
Poppylop_cos unveiled the shoot on Instagram. Consisting of four photos, the shoot honors Magik and the Soulsword. Poppylop’s costume is comic accurate, with the recreation of the Soulsword being a highlight. The first photo features Magik in a graffiti-heavy alley, the Soulsword primed for combat. The second photo shows Magik posing with the sword, daring anyone to challenge her. The final two photos are lighter in tone: she finds a Magik action figure in a store in one picture and plays arcade games in another.
Magik is a Multi-Layered, and Powerful, Mutant
Magik is a fan favorite mutant, and one of the most complex characters in the X-Men mythos. The sister of Colossus, she made her first appearance alongside her brother in Giant Size X-Men #1 but did not come to the forefront until several years later. As a small child, Illyana Rasputina was abducted by demons and held captive in the extradimensional Limbo. Aged seven years during her time there, she would return to our world not only as an extremely powerful sorceress, but with the mutant ability to teleport herself using “stepping discs.”
Magik’s Sword Is An Extension of Her Powers
The Soulsword is also important to Magik. Her primary weapon, it was forged, as the name implies, from her soul. Created during her captivity in Limbo, the Soulsword is the ultimate expression of Magik’s power as the Sorcerer Supreme of that dimension. The Soulsword is capable of disrupting any type of magic as well as boosting the magical powers of whoever wields it. Normally used for fighting magic users, the Soulsword grows more powerful every time it is used. The Marvel Universe is full of powerful magical objects, but the Soulsword is one of a kind.

The Soulsword stands out in every photo, especially in the first where it is glowing, invoking the powerful magic that runs through it. It jumps out in the second photo as well. Even in the lighter-hearted photos the Soulsword shines, a testament to how important it is to Magik’s life.
