Mafia Trilogy Collects One Of Gaming’s Most Underrated Series

One of the most underrated franchises in video game history, the Mafia series, is getting a gorgeous remaster in the form of Mafia: Trilogy. All three games in the Mafia series follow a different protagonist and take place in a different era, with the first detailing a 1930’s gangster tale set in Lost Heaven, a fictional city reminiscent of Chicago and New York.

Mafia 2, which took place both during and after the events of the first game, saw players living out a new story in the city of Empire Bay, another New York stand-in, and followed the life of Vito Scaletta, a man who is drawn into a life of crime after getting back from his tour of duty in World War 2. The third game in the series, Mafia 3, once again moved the timeline forward and saw players taking on the role of Lincoln Clay, another former war hero. Mafia 3 has marked the last entry in the franchise, and also the first to feature a southern location in the open world of New Bordeaux, the game’s fictional version of New Orleans.

Now, it looks like players will finally be able to play all three Mafia games together, as revealed by a teaser trailer posted to Mafia Game’s YouTube channel earlier today. While Mafia 3 still looks to be just as pretty as it was when the game released back in 2017, the biggest and most jaw-dropping change comes from the way the very first clip, the one showing a scene from the original Mafia, looks. Check out the graphical update below:

According to the video above, there will be more Mafia: Trilogy announcements coming on May 19th, so interested fans should be sure to check back in to see what all the developers will reveal about their upcoming game pack. Hopefully, players who still own Mafia 3 will be able to purchase the other two titles at a reduced cost, in much the same way game bundles on Steam offer reductions if someone already owns a product included in the sale.

Although many players of the original Mafia got stuck on frustrating levels like the speed-track, those who were able to finish it found one of the best stories ever told in video games, and despite the clunky car controls and outdated graphics many still pointed to it as a turning point for the way games blended story and action. Mafia 2, considered by some to be the best in the series, also offered a fantastic, classic story of mafioso betrayal and the struggles of family dominance. Being able to play all three Mafia games together is something many players are likely excited about, and getting to play a non-clunky, beautiful-looking version of the original game would be absolutely amazing.
