Mad Max Meets Rollerball in Epic New Trailer for I HEART SKULL-CRUSHER (Exclusive)

BOOM! Box, an imprint of BOOM! Studios has shared the exclusive trailer for I Heart Skull-Crusher! #1 with Screen Rant. This new comic series blends a Mad Max-style wasteland with sports in a story full of mayhem and misfits. Set to release this Spring, it follows Trini, who dreams of being like her idol.

I Heart Skull-Crusher! has the creative team of Josie Campbell, Alessio Zonno, Angel De Santiago, and Jim Campbell. Josie Campbell is a rising writer who worked on DC’s Amazons Attack event and was a screenwriter and producer for My Adventures With Superman. Zonno has previously worked on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Turtles.

The series will feature main covers from Alessio Zonno and variant cover from R1c0 and Gus Allen, known for their work on Grim and Lumberjanes, respectively. This genre-blend will deliver an intriguing heroine with big dreams willing to chase them across the American Waste.

The trailer provides a glimpse of Trini, the teenage heroine. It highlights snippets of her life, while also showing a peek at Screaming Pain Ball, the sport she is so passionate about. Also revealed in the trailer is Skull-Crusher, Trini’s athletic idol. The first issue will likely showcase some of the heroine’s youth, as well as her inspiration for wanting to Skull-Crusher’s team. She’ll be starting out on her journey towards a deadly battle in the hopes of making her dreams become a reality.

18-year-old Trini will do anything to compete in her favorite sport, Screaming Pain Ball, aspiring to the heights of her longtime hero Skull-Crusher! But she can’t do it alone, and a gaggle of misfits is just what she needs to cross the American Waste and battle in Queen Mob’s deadly tournament. With Trini’s dreams of being just like Skull-Crusher on the line, do she and her friends have what it takes to win a coveted spot on Skull-Crusher’s undefeated team?

Slated for release in March, BOOM! Box is adding I Heart Skull-Crusher to its many offerings, some of which have also had an athletic focus. The publisher of Fence (2017), Dodge City (2018), The Avant-Guards (2019), and Getting Dizzy (2021) has the latest thrilling sports title ready for comic fans. Fence earned a sequel series that debuted last year, Fence: Redemption. BOOM! Box is no stranger to stories involving sports and dream chasing, which means I Heart Skull-Crusher has a lot of promise for long-term fans of the imprint.

Trini will be the next heroine to chase her dreams, daring to face a Mad Max-esque landscape with her friends beside her. This new YA offering brings together top talent with a relatable sports-inspired story, and seemingly insurmountable challenges for its protagonist to tackle.
