Mad Max Confirmed The Winner Of Immortan Joe vs. Chris Hemsworth’s Dementus 8 Years Ago

The recent trailer for Furiosa shows Dementus ruling over survivors, but the Mad Max franchise already confirmed the winner of Immortan Joe vs. Dementus eight years ago. Whereas Immortan Joe was portrayed as a humorless and ruthless warlord in previous Mad Max films, Furiosa‘s trailer shows Dementus (Chris Hemsworth) as a more charismatic figure, affecting a tongue-in-cheek Australian accent and donning a teddy bear around his neck. Moreover, a brief shot from the trailer shows Dementus and an enslaved Immortan Joe in a tense standoff with each other, thus implying the two warlords will cross bloody paths at some point in the new movie.

Furiosa is a prequel movie that will tell the story of renegade warrior Furiosa’s (Anya Taylor-Joy) rebellion against the powerful warlord Dementus, prior to meeting Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) in Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). Although the trailer only offers glimpses into what kind of character Dementus will be, he’s already made a strong impression as someone who is equally if not more ruthless than Immortan Joe by virtue of being seen ruling a large and powerful army of followers. Irrespective of Dementus’ villainous influence in Furiosa, his absence and Immortan Joe’s reign of terror in Mad Max: Fury Road already confirm who wins between the two warlords.

Mad Max: Fury Road follows the titular Max as he navigates the post-apocalyptic wasteland, and aids the rebellious Furiosa in her mission to overcome the evil Immortan Joe. In Mad Max: Fury Road, Immortan Joe is seen as the ruthless and intimidating ruler of the citadel who has a loyal fleet of followers, or war boys, bending to his every will. Furthermore, everyone in the film except for Furiosa and Max lives in fear of Immortan Joe, and aside from them and a handful of rebels, Immortan Joe acts with impunity. Considering Immortan Joe rules his kingdom with near freedom for chaos, it seems likely that Dementus will met his end in Furiosa.

Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the best apocalyptic movies of the 2010s, and that’s largely because of Charlize Theron’s character Furiosa. Even though Immortan Joe is one of the most intimidating villains in recent memory, Furiosa’s grit and determination eventually lead to her killing him with Max’s help in Mad Max: Fury Road‘s climax. However, with Dementus as Furiosa‘s main villain and Immortan Joe seemingly weaker than him in the trailer, it begs the question of whether Furiosa and Immortan Joe were at one point allies. Furthermore, the trailer shows Furiosa with her human arm, thus suggesting she’ll lose it in combat against Dementus.
