Macaulay Culkin Celebrates His Birthday By Making YOU Feel Old

Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin is making the Internet feel old today by turning 40. Culkin starred in Christopher Columbus’ film when he was only 10 years old and quickly rose to child star status. Culkin played the plucky 8-year-old Kevin McCallister, who accidentally gets left at home while his family embarks on their Christmas vacation to Paris. Kevin must defend his home from two bumbling burglars. Home Alone was a box office hit when it released in 1990, inspiring the creation of Home Alone 2, three more sequels not starring Culkin, and the upcoming Home Alone reboot.

Home Alone and Home Alone 2 are Culkin’s most renowned credits. Culkin mostly opted to stay out of the spotlight after his breakout role, but he had roles in a few films here and there. He even revived his role of Kevin in good spirits on the adult animated parody show Robot Chicken and a grownup version of the character in the webseries :DRYVRS. Culkin has also pursued other creative passions with comedic rock band The Pizza Underground and his YouTube channel Bunny Ears. Culkin’s next acting gig will be in the upcoming season of American Horror Story.

While Culkin may have aged over the years, society will always struggle to see him outside of the image of 8-year-old Kevin McCallister. Today Culkin tweeted that he turned 40 on his own birthday. Culkin tweeted this inconceivable fact fully knowing that his fans see him as if he’s their own kid who’s growing up far too quickly. The “Incredible Culk” knew that being born in 1980 and reminding his fans of this fact was a nervy move, but he made it nonetheless.

As expected, his fans’ minds were blown. Fans commented laments of their youth and statements of pure shock. Some did enjoy the nostalgia trip of remembering younger days when they could be at peace watching 10-year-old Culkin act in Home Alone at the age he should always remain. In a follow-up tweet, Culkin contemplated how he should embrace the inevitable mid-life crisis phase of his life. He expressed a desire to pursue surfing instead of inventing a time machine so he can go back to being 10 years old.

Culkin has ruffled a lot of feathers this birthday. He has thrown his fans into an existential crisis during an international pandemic. While exercising his right to be 40 has forced his fans to swallow a horse-sized pill, it may have been the wake-up call that they all needed. Time is passing and Culkin will never be 10 years old again, and that really is one way to make people feel old.
