M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass Casts Sarah Paulson

M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming thriller Glass has added Sarah Paulson to its supporting cast of characters. Taking place shortly after the events depicted in Split from earlier this year, Shyamalan’s latest original offering will serve as a sequel to both Split and his much-beloved Unbreakable  – now that it’s been confirmed that both films exist in the same cinematic universe.

Following confirmation that work is progressing steadily on the Glass script, Shyamalan fans have plenty to look forward to from Glass proper come January of 2019. Glass will feature a number of returning characters from both Unbreakable and Split, though there will be newcomers to the franchise in the cast too – one of which has now been officially confirmed by the project’s writer/director himself.

By way of a post to his verified Twitter account (see below), Shyamalan has confirmed that the Golden Globe-winning Paulson will be appearing in Glass too. Many TV viewers likely know Paulson for her work on multiple seasons of American Horror Story, though it was her turn on another FX anthology TV series (namely, American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson) that landed her a Golden Globe victory, earlier this year.

Glass is set to follow the heroic trail of David Dunn (Bruce Willis) from Unbreakable in hot pursuit of Kevin Crumb (James McAvoy) from Split, how that Kevin has transformed into his superhuman Beast personality. However, David and Kevin aren’t alone in their adventure, as Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson) from Unbreakable also re-emerges, as an enigmatic presence who holds secrets critical to both men. Rounding out the cast of Glass (so far) is Anya Taylor-Joy, also reprising her own respective role from Split.

Paulson’s role in Glass is unknown at the time of this writing, but based on her outstanding resume it’s easy to imagine why Shyamalan was eager to add her to his roster of outstanding lead performers. Paulson has been a consistently welcome presence on multiple seasons of American Horror Story, and her work on The People v. O.J. Simpson proved that she has the chops to continue delivering as an A-list performer.

Only time will tell whether or not Glass proves to be a winning followup to both Split and Unbreakable. Both of those films have their respective fan bases, and as such Glass will have to do well by both built-in audiences. Shyamalan has never been one to shy away from tackling ambitious projects, however, and his latest creative endeavor might be his boldest one yet.
