Luther is a creepy, thought-provoking psychological crime drama that has seen five seasons to date and they are heavily liked by viewers all around the world. The show’s dark storylines, coupled with complex characters and brilliant acting make it an addictive watch.

In the series’ twenty episodes so far, there have been some brilliant antagonists who have come up against John Luther (Idris Elba). While some episodes have depicted the tensions surrounding the horrible crimes committed in London, some have, just, focused on Luther’s personal life and his daily battles. In the second episode of season 2, a lot is going on at a frantic pace. Justin has been abducted by Cameron and is being tortured, while Jenny is with Luther, while her boss is looking for her.

Mark comes in handy for Luther but he must do a job for his boss before he can concentrate on Justin. Meanwhile, Cameron abducts a school bus full of children and plans to kill every single one of them.

Season 3, Episode 2 (8.5)

In the second episode of season 3, Luther can be seen concentrating on his personal life, for a change. He has a date with Mary but Luther cannot stay away from his work, for long.

 A serial killer is on the loose whose fetish murders are quite unsettling. With so much on his plate, Luther gives Justin a personal case that he needs to investigate for himself.

Season 1, Episode 4 (8.5)

In the fourth episode of season 4, the walls seem to be closing in on Luther from all corners. A notorious woman killer is out there and Luther must catch him before another victim turns up.

Furthermore, Henry Madsen wakes from his coma and this could be troublesome for Luther as his addiction towards breaking rules might come to the fore. Meanwhile, Zoe reveals something to Mark that could end up ruining their relationship.

Season 2, Episode 1 (8.5)

In the first episode of season 2, Luther is shown to be suicidal as he is still dealing with the murder of his wife Zoe. Still, he decides to return to work after a masked killer comes on to the scene who’s pilling up bodies.

A couple of new police officers enter the fray, while Luther tells Justin to rejoin him in the new squad. Furthermore, Luther also has a personal thing to take care of.

Season 2, Episode 3 (8.6)

In the third episode of season 2, Luther has a lot of things to take care of. Firstly, he is growing fond of Jenny and he just wants to protect her from her horrible bosses.

But, he has to leave her in his flat as a murderer goes on a killing spree and seems to be choosing his victims with the role of a dice, without any motive. Meanwhile, Jenny does something she wouldn’t forget and Luther has to take care of it.

Season 2, Episode 4 (8.9)

In the finale of season 2, Luther tries to find some control over his professional and personal lives. The killer who is selecting his victims randomly is still on the loose and Luther is absolutely horrified to hear that the killings are a part of some sort of game played by two twin brothers.

In other news, Luther also has to take care of Toby Kent’s death (killed by Jenny) and not set Baba loose on his tale.

Season 1, Episode 5 (9.0)

In the fifth episode of season 1, Luther’s best friend Reed turns into a devil. While they are investigating a kidnapping case, Luther gets to know that Reed is involved in a couple of murders and that he is a dirty cop.

When Luther tries to calm his friend down, Reed doesn’t listen and goes to Zoe’s house, before killing her and setting up the crime scene to make it look like Luther did it. Meanwhile, Alice makes a startling revelation to Luther.

Season 3, Episode 3 (9.0)

In the penultimate episode of season 3, one of the show’s dearest characters is killed by the vigilante serial killer – Tom Marwood. The scenes preceding the eventual outcome are absolutely chaotic as Luther and Justin try to stop another murder.

While they are very close to catching the killer, Justin comes in harm’s way as he is shot to death by Marwood, leaving Luther absolutely distraught.

Season 3, Episode 4 (9.1)

In the finale of season 3, Alice makes a return from the dead as she saves Luther. After killing Justin, Marwood takes a different path, turning from killing criminals to almost anyone who comes in his way.

Furthermore, Luther’s romance with Mary comes to an end after the latter suffers from something traumatic. The season concludes in a bittersweet ending.

Season 1, Episode 6 (9.2)

In the finale of season 1, multiple storylines come to an end. Luther is on the run after being framed for the murder of his wife Zoe. He seeks out help from Alice, Mark, and Justin, some of the people he can trust in this storm.

While no one is suspicious of Reed, Schenk gets on his tail after watching a video again. Meanwhile, Justin’s job might be in danger after doing something the police force doesn’t like.
