Lucy Hale’s new movie Which Brings Me to You proves she’s the perfect replacement for one iconic 90s star. Adapted from the eponymous book by Julianna Baggott and Steve Almond, Which Brings Me To You tells the story of Will (Nat Wolff) and Jane (Lucy Hale), two people who meet at a wedding and try to hook up in the coatroom. After calling off sex, the pair agree to tell each other about their most embarrassing and heartbreaking romances. This plucky rom-com is just the most recent addition to actress Lucy Hale’s portfolio.
Hale grew to fame portraying Aria Montgomery in the hit TV show Pretty Little Liars. When the series went off the air in 2017, many watched in anticipation to see where her career would go. The actress has found a large amount of success, performing in movies and TV series across many genres. Despite the mixed reviews, Lucy Hale’s newest film, Which Brings Me to You, points towards an exciting path that the actress could take.
Which Brings Me To You Proves Lucy Hale Is The New Meg Ryan
Within the romantic comedy genre, there are few faces as familiar as that of rom-com queen Meg Ryan. Having acted in over a dozen, Meg Ryan’s romantic comedies are memorable because the actress brought a girl-next-door feeling to all of her characters. While the star has made a recent comeback with What Happens Later, the rom-com genre has been lacking a quintessential leading lady for some time. Lucy Hale’s performance in Which Brings Me To You proves that she could be the next big-name romantic comedy actress.
Throughout Which Brings Me to You, Lucy Hale infuses Jane with the moxie and gumption characteristic of the genre’s leading ladies but adds a layer of jaded wit that makes the character feel representative of today’s world. By giving Jane an air of authenticity, Hale makes it easy to laugh along with the character’s embarrassments and cry at her heartbreaks. She offers the same loveable girl-next-door charm for which Meg Ryan is known. While there are many great actresses in the romantic comedy genre, it’s easy to see Lucy Hale as the next rom-com queen based on this movie alone.
Which Brings Me To You Review: Lucy Hale & Nat Wolff Falter In Dull, Heatless Romantic Comedy
Lucy Hale & Nat Wolff may be trying to shine, but the story is far too flat & they have very little chemistry to consider this a successful romance.
Lucy Hale Has 4 Great Rom-Coms Under Her Belt (And More To Come)
Which Brings Me to You is just the most recent in a streak of great romantic comedies starring Lucy Hale. Hale got her first leading role in a rom-com playing Lucy in the 2020 film A Nice Girl Like You. Her hilarious, charming, and down-to-earth performance set the bar high. She continued to excel in her next two rom-coms. Her 2021 film The Hating Game is one of the best enemies-to-lovers rom-coms. Meanwhile, the 2023 Amazon Freevee movie Puppy Love is a quirky, feel-good romantic comedy.
Hale’s 2024 romantic comedy surely won’t be her last either. The actress is currently slated to appear in two upcoming films – F*** Marry Kill and Mort in Sherman Oaks. While it isn’t technically classified as a rom-com, the synopsis for Mort in Sherman Oaks describes the comedy movie as an offbeat romance, meaning it will likely fall into the genre. After Which Brings Me To You, this will hopefully be the next in a long line of incredible rom-coms starring Lucy Hale.
