Lucifer Showrunners Tease Return of Fan-Favorite Characters in Season 6

The sixth and final season of Netflix’s Lucifer will feature the returns of some fan favorite characters, tease showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich. As is perhaps fitting for a show about the Devil, Lucifer has managed to evade death time and time again. The series once ran on Fox, only to be cancelled after three seasons. However, following fan outcry, Netflix picked up Lucifer for what was expected to be just two additional runs. And yet, once again the beloved series found new life when star Tom Ellis inked a new deal with the streamer. Lucifer will return for season 6, but it will definitely be the last.

Lucifer just concluded season 5 back in May, but the wait for its return won’t be as long as some might have expected. Season 6 wrapped earlier this year, which has helped pave the way for a shorter hiatus. During Comic-Con@Home this weekend, Netflix confirmed Lucifer season 6 will premiere on September 10. The news arrived via a teaser that featured several memorable moments from the show’s run, as well as a pilot callback in the form of the return of Matt Corby as Officer Diggs, the same policeman who pulled over Lucifer in the show’s first moments.

During the Lucifer Comic-Con panel, Ellis brought up Corby’s appearance when talking about the final season’s various Easter eggs. He considered what other things might be in store for fans, which prompted Modrovich to tease a fun return. “We actually have another familiar face that showed up at one point from a favorite episode,” she said. “A favorite guest star.” Henderson added that, when they approached season 6 with a fresh perspective, they were able to add some additional surprises. “We found one character we’d never seen, we found one character who we’ve talked about but have never seen,” he said.

Previously, Henderson hinted Lucifer season 6 would have an exciting mystery character, and that could be who he is referring to now. A popular theory is that the show will finally introduce Adam, of Adam and Eve. As Eve (Inbar Lavi) has had a major role throughout Lucifer‘s run, that theory isn’t too absurd. As for the returning character, fans will have pore over the show’s varied guest list from over the years to determine who could pop back up.

Lucifer season 6 already promises to be exciting, as it will find the Devil in a brand new position. The end of Lucifer season 5, part 2 saw him receive the biggest promotion of all and become the new God, and that will surely bring about some major changes for the final 10 episodes. On top of that, it sounds like the series is making the effort to feature fond callbacks to previous episodes, which will make the end even more poignant. With Lucifer‘s conclusion mere weeks away, expect more details to emerge soon.

Lucifer season 6 will premiere Friday, September 10 on Netflix.
