Lucifer Season 5 Release Date Revealed In Devilish Video

Netflix released a video looking back at Lucifer’s naughtiest moments and revealing exactly when part 1 of season 5 drops on the streaming service. The character of Lucifer Morningstar, aka The Devil, was created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg for DC Comics’ Sandman series. The show follows him as he leaves his post in Hell to take up residence in Los Angeles and run the nightclub, Lux.

Tom Ellis stars in the titular role on the series, which debuted on Fox in 2016. Fox canceled the show after season 3, but it was picked up by Netflix for seasons 4 and 5. The upcoming season 5 was initially supposed to be the last. Still, with both the showrunners and Ellis signing on for a season 6, it is all but confirmed the show would run for at least one further season, despite no official word on the matter from Netflix.

This morning, Netflix released a video via its Twitter account, running a devilish 66.6 seconds, that takes a look at some of the character’s naughtiest moments, as well as to announce that part 1 of Lucifer season 5, consisting of the first eight episodes, will drop on August 21. The footage focuses on Lucifer’s taste for carnal pleasure, showing him engaging in several sexual encounters with a procession of eager partners. The trailer also provides a quick look back at Lucifer’s ever-evolving relationship with Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren Graham). You can watch the video below.

Fans of the show will be delighted to know that season 5 is around the corner, given the fact that season 4 left some enticing plot threads dangling. When viewers last saw Lucifer, he had returned to rule in Hell after Chloe had declared her love for him. Meanwhile, Lucifer’s older brother Amenadiel (D.B Woodside) is on earth, raising his son Charlie.

Aside from all the dangling plot threads, there is the small matter of Lucifer’s cameo appearance in the Crisis on Infinite Earths story arc to address. That appearance showed Lucifer still running Lux, and thus one assumes it took place before the events of season 4; however, it also confirmed the show’s existence in the Arrowverse. Whether the Arrowverse will be referenced in season 5 is unknown, but it’s unlikely.

Regardless, with anticipation for season 5 now ramping up, and Netflix confirming a release date, fans should expect to see footage from Lucifer season 5 in the next month or so. Only then will we get an idea of what to expect from the upcoming batch of episodes, and whether Lucifer will stay in Hell or return to earth. The latter seems more likely.
