Lucifer: Biggest Unanswered Questions After Season 5

Lucifer: Biggest Unanswered Questions After Season 5

Warning: SPOILERS for Lucifer season 5, part 2.

The Devil became God at the end of Lucifer season 5, and that stunning resolution left some major unanswered questions going into season 6. Lucifer season 5, part 2, was mainly concerned with the presence of God (Dennis Haysbert), who finally came to Earth to settle the problems between his sons Lucifer (Tom Ellis), Michael, and Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside). But what God really wanted to do was retire, and His departure from Lucifer‘s universe left Lucifer and Michael competing to become the new God.

Lucifer season 5, part 2, saw Michael’s evil plans to become God culminate in his rallying the majority of the archangels to his side as if becoming God was like winning an election. But Michael’s schemes caused the tragic death of Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro). Meanwhile, Lucifer and his love Chloe Decker (Lauren German), who finally decided to be together, were faced with what it would mean for them if Lucifer became God. To win the war against Michael, Lucifer, Chloe, and Amenadiel recruited Mazikeen (Lesley-Ann Brandt) and an army of demons to their side. But the conflict came down to Lucifer and Michael, who thought he had the coup de grace because he assembled the flaming sword. With it, Michael killed Chloe, but Lucifer defied his own banishment from Heaven and rescued his beloved detective.

Ultimately, it was the fact that Lucifer sacrificed himself to resurrect Chloe and finally told her “I love you” that the Devil earned the right to become God. When Lucifer returned to Earth, all of the angels and demons, including Michael, bent the knee and acknowledged the Devil as the new God. But, of course, that isn’t the end of the story. When Lucifer’s final season arrives on Netflix, it will have to answer the biggest questions left behind by season 5.

10. Does Lucifer Have All Of God’s Powers?

Lucifer: Biggest Unanswered Questions After Season 5

Lucifer is now God but what does that mean exactly? Does the Devil have all of his father’s omnipotence and omniscience? Lucifer still has his angels’ wings since he flew down from Heaven and he used the flaming sword to cut off Michael’s wings. The Devil also seemed a bit surprised when all of the archangels and demons bowed down to him, which led Lucifer to remark, “Oh, my Me!” So it’s possible Lucifer is merely God by virtue of winning the war against Michael but he still has to earn the powers that come with being the Almighty. Or Lucifer does have omnipotence but he simply hasn’t had time to adjust to his new abilities.

9. Will Chloe Die If She Takes Off Lilith’s Ring?

Chloe Lilith Ring

Chloe’s actual status is also unclear. Lucifer flew to Heaven and brought Chloe back by giving her Lilith’s ring, which grants the wearer immortality. Lilith’s ring temporarily protected Lucifer from bursting into flames due to his banishment from Heaven, but once the Devil placed it on Chloe’s finger, he was incinerated while Decker’s soul returned to Earth and she came back to life. But is Chloe actually dead and is Lilith’s ring the only thing keeping her alive or is Chloe 100% alive again? However, while she does wear the ring, Chloe is immortal, and she may prefer to remain that way for as long as Lucifer is God so they can be together for eternity.

8. Will Amenadiel Become A Police Detective?

Lucifer Dan Funeral

Amenadiel’s destiny on Earth could be with the LAPD. God’s most noble angel told Dan that he wants to be a cop and help people but Espinoza wasn’t enthusiastic, which hurt Amenadiel’s feelings. However, at Dan’s funeral, Ella told Amenadiel that Dan turned in the angel’s application to the LAPD. Amenadiel had a taste of working a case in the Lucifer season 5 episode “Detective Amenadiel” and it would be fitting if he did follow in Chloe and Dan’s footsteps in the LAPD. Time will tell if Lucifer’s favorite brother really will become Detective Amenadiel.

7. Will Ella Date Carol Corbett?

Lucifer Carol

Dan is one of the people who tried to help Ella Lopez (Aimee Garcia) cope with the “darkness” inside of her, but he also wagered that what Miss Lopez needs to move on from her relationship with a serial killer is to date a good guy. Dan fixed Ella up with his friend, Carol Corbett (Scott Porter), and they met at Dan’s funeral. Of course, it wasn’t the best time for Ella to consider a potential new boyfriend. Will Miss Lopez date Carol in Lucifer season 6 and will he be the answer to her prayers, or will Corbett turn out to be another lunatic like Pete Daily (Alex Koch)?

6. Will Maze Become Maziqueen of Hell?

Maziqueen

Mazikeen had a remarkable arc in Lucifer season 5, but it’s clear that the demon has grown a soul. But Maze still wants to be the queen of Hell and rule over the demons and the damned, which Lucifer can make happen for her now that he has become God. Will she really become Maziqueen, or will Maze change her mind and decide Hell isn’t her long-term goal. But if Maze does rule Hell, what will that mean for her relationship with Eve (Inbar Lavi)? Now that they’ve committed to be together, and Eve has definitively decided she doesn’t want immortality via Lilith’s ring, Eve isn’t going to want to live in Hell with Maziqueen.

5. Will God Return To Lucifer’s Universe?

Lucifer God Smile

God left Lucifer‘s universe and moved to his wife’s, the Goddess’ (Tricia Helfer), universe, but will His retirement be permanent? God’s ultimate plan was seemingly for Lucifer to replace him as the new God, but it remains to be seen whether the Devil will be a good ruler of the universe. The possibility exists that Lucifer won’t be God for very long or something terrible will go wrong. This could all be another elaborate lesson for the Devil orchestrated by God. If so, will God return to the universe, relieve Lucifer of Godhood, and set everything back to normal?

4. Will Ella Finally Find Out The Truth About Lucifer?

Ella Lopez Lucifer

Thanks to Michael, Dan found out Lucifer was really the Devil in season 5, and that leaves Ella Lopez as the last of Lucifer’s adult friends who isn’t clued into the fact that he really is the Devil (despite the fact that Lucifer constantly tells everyone he’s the Devil). Ella also had no idea that Lucifer’s father was God, despite His saying things to her like “Thanks for all of the support. It hasn’t gone unnoticed.” Lucifer season 6 is the last chance for Miss Lopez to learn what all of her other friends already know about Lucifer and his family. When it finally happens, how will Ella react?

3. What Will Become Of Michael?

Lucifer Michael Cut Wings

Michael is a truly nefarious villain who upended Lucifer’s life as part of his long-range scheme to become God. Despite killing their sister Remiel (Vinessa Viditto) in Lucifer season 5, part 2, and causing the death of Dan Espinoza, Lucifer showed Michael mercy when he became God and the Devil merely sliced off Michael’s wings as punishment. While this means Michael is now stranded on Earth, he’s still dangerous and is poised to return in Lucifer season 6. What’s next for Michael? Will Michael ever mend his ways and make amends with Lucifer or will the twin with the chip on his shoulder remain the show’s villain in Lucifer season 6?

2. Will Dan Be Saved From Hell (& Return To Life)?

Dan looking up in fear at someone on Lucifer.

Dan’s tragic death was the most heartbreaking moment of Lucifer season 5, and possibly of the entire series. Dan was killed by mercenaries hired by Michael and he died in Chloe’s arms, which leaves Trixie (Scarlett Estevez) without her father. But to add insult to injury, Dan’s soul went to Hell instead of Heaven, which Michael arranged as a trap for Chloe and as a bargaining chip against Lucifer. While his family and friends mourning Dan and Espinoza’s elaborate funeral makes his death appear permanent, now that Lucifer is God, will he rescue Dan from Hell and bring “Detective Douche” back to life? And what will it mean for Dan and everyone who knows Espinoza died if Lucifer resurrects him?

1. What Kind Of God Will Lucifer Be?

Lucifer’s ascension to becoming God feels like the culmination of the Devil’s entire journey since the series began. But with one final season of Lucifer to go, the show will explore what Lucifer will do now that he’s the Almighty and determine what kind of God the Devil will be? Since Lucifer’s own father wasn’t incapable of error, it’s safe to guess that Lucifer will make his share of mistakes as God. But will Lucifer remain God until the series ends? Will he end up losing Godhood and if he does, what would that mean for the world? And how will Lucifer resolve the Devil’s love story with Chloe? Lucifer season 6 is poised to answer all of these questions and more, hopefully bringing the saga of the Devil on Earth to a satisfying conclusion.
