Lucifer: 6 Characters Fans Need To See Return In Season 5 (& 4 The Show Can Skip)

Lucifer: 6 Characters Fans Need To See Return In Season 5 (& 4 The Show Can Skip)

Fantasy TV shows are often a hit since they bring a little bit of magic and something special into the world the audience knows so well. That’s also the case for the TV show Lucifer inspired by the comics by Mike Carey and Neil Gaiman. The show is much different from the comics but it managed to gain the love of thousands of fans.

One of the main reasons is the great characters that appeared in the show – not just Lucifer himself, played by the Welsh actor Tom Ellis, but also a rich plethora of supporting characters, humans, and angels/demons alike. The 5th season lies ahead and while there are some characters who should return, others can stay away.

Should Return: Ella Lopez

Lucifer: 6 Characters Fans Need To See Return In Season 5 (& 4 The Show Can Skip)

Ella Lopez is one of the more cheerful and geeky characters of the show who creates a nice contrast to the usually more serious Chloe Decker. Ella works in the lab and her expertise has helped crack more than one case.

She seems cheerful and careless but there’s more to her than meets the eye, especially her sordid past regarding her family. The show hasn’t really explored this storyline that much and it’d be interesting to see what it could do with it.

Should Return: Dr. Linda Martin

Lucifer Doctor Linda Martin

Dr. Linda Martin has undergone a transformation in the show. She started out as nothing more than Lucifer’s therapist who also had an affair with him.

They ended it not long afterward and Linda eventually fell in love with Lucifer’s brother Amenadiel and had a son with him. The show could have a lot in store for the new parents and their half-angel half-human baby.

Can Skip: Trixie Espinoza

Don’t get this wrong – Trixie, Chloe’s and Dan’s daughter, is adorable as hell (pun intended) and also funny and smart. That said, the show didn’t get her a lot of material to work with. She usually pops up from time to time, has a few funny lines, and then disappears again.

She’s a great character who would, however, deserve a better storyline, but if the show can’t give it to her, Trixie might as well stay away and not much would change.

Should Return: Maze

Maze is the one character the show gave a lot to work with, besides Lucifer and Chloe. She started out as a cynical ass-kicking demon but she later became a cynical ass-kicking but also sometimes sensitive and friendly demon who isn’t afraid to show her emotions.

Maze doesn’t like Earth as much as Lucifer but she admits there are certain advantages to living in Los Angeles and her solo career as a bounty hunter is something that would be great to see more of.

Should Return: Amenadiel

Lucifer’s brother Amenadiel despised Earth even more than Maze did at first but he eventually changed his opinion and grew to care about his new home and its people.

He also started a family and seeing Amenadiel, who’s accustomed to a much different style of living, raising his child in Earth conditions with his human partner would no doubt be hilarious. Plus, he could be able to devise a plan on how to get Lucifer from Hell and back to Earth once again.

Can Skip: Daniel Espinoza

Dan Espinosa and Chloe Decker in Lucifer

Dan isn’t the most sympathetic of characters but he has his strong moments. Unfortunately, it seems that the show doesn’t quite know what to do with him.

Unlike some other characters who have a consistent storyline, Dan has switched between several storylines and neither of them has worked out, all of them were cut off rather prematurely. He could, of course, take on a new direction in the upcoming season, but if the show will continue to treat Dan in the same way it did before, he’ll still be nothing more than a sidekick, and somewhat expendable.

Should Return: Chloe Decker

Chloe Decker sitting down and looking at something in Lucifer

Chloe Decker is the second main character, right after Lucifer, so the show wouldn’t make much sense without her presence. Especially now when Chloe finally learned the truth about who Lucifer really was and confessed her feelings for him.

The confession came at the latest time possible but somehow it’s safe to assume that Chloe won’t give up and try to devise a plan on how to get Lucifer back. Also, she has her daughter to take care of and her work to do so Chloe should be busy in the future season.

Can Skip: Charlotte Richards

Dan Espinosa and Charlotte Richards in Lucifer

Charlotte Richards started out as a somewhat villainous character since Lucifer’s mom possessed her when she fled to Earth. However, once Lucifer’s mom left, Charlotte was back to her old self… somewhat, anyway.

And then she went and died and her soul went to Heaven, thanks to Amenadiel, who regained his lost wings this way. It was a touching scene and if the show brought Charlotte back, it would lessen the impact her death had on the other characters.

Can Skip: Marcus Pierce

Tom Welling as Marcus Pierce in Lucifer

It’s a well-known fact that comic-book characters often don’t stay dead for long in TV shows. After all, when there’s a fantasy element involved, the possibilities of how to bring an already dead character back to life are almost endless. However, Marcus Pierce should stay away.

Yes, he was played by Tom Welling who was awesome in the part and yes, his story was intriguing, but the show has already moved on ever since and Pierce’s sudden return would be a little out of place.

Should Return: Eve

Eve in Lucifer Season 4 on a dark background, looking upset.

The first place almost went to Lucifer himself but since the show has his name, it’s safe to assume he’ll return in the new season… one way or another.

So instead, let’s focus on Eve, Lucifer’s first love, who first came into the show in the last season. Eve was like a lovesick girl at first but she just began discovering her independence in the fourth season’s finale and there’s a lot she could learn and do if the show gives her the chance to do so.
