Lucid UX 2.0 Update: The Best New Features Coming To The Lucid Air

Lucid Air owners can expect improved performance and new features from their electric vehicles, thanks to a new OTA software update. Like phones, cars can now be remotely updated with the latest software. This allows automakers to equip their cars with new features even after they’ve been shipped for delivery. Lucid’s recent software upgrade reflects the needs of customers, especially when there are lots of alternatives in the market. Another automaker offering automatic OTA updates is Hyundai.

The Lucid Air is one of the most expensive electric models today. While its exotic outer design and alluring interior are two selling points, the Lucid Air is also popular for being technology-oriented. Its DreamDrive has been touted as the most detailed advanced driver assistance system offered by EVs. Given its starting price, the Lucid Air rivals Tesla’s Model S Plaid and other EVs with similar retail prices.

In a press release detailing the Lucid UX 2.0 update’s features, Lucid describes the Air as “a true software-defined vehicle.” This update is Lucid’s most extensive yet, and brings new features like Instant-on, a new on-screen layout for the Glass Cockpit display, and more functionalities for Alexa voice control, among others. While Lucid’s latest update comes with dozens of changes to the Lucid Air, some are more important than others. For instance, the “Instant-on” display ensures that the EV is prepared to be driven once the driver is seated and fastens their seat belt. There’s also a new on-screen layout for the Glass Cockpit display. The controls for popular apps like Home, Navigation, Media, and Phone have changed positions so that the Lucid UX is more user-friendly.

Navigation and maps also gain some improvements, with turn-by-turn directions now shown on the center display. Drivers now enjoy better range prediction, so they know how much range will be used on a drive. Amazon’s Alexa voice control can now do more like switching the rear seat’s climate control settings. DreamDrive also gets some improvements, while Highway Assist can now discover nearby sources of light and use low beams when necessary. Additionally, Rear Pedestrian Collision is activated when the Lucid Air rolls backward or is in Drive mode, while visual cues for Parking Distance Warning have been modified.

For a relatively new manufacturer, Lucid has demonstrated that it should be considered a threat by legacy automakers. In August this year, it added a new trim to its lineup of Air EVs. Called the Sapphire Edition, it is Lucid’s first attempt at making a vehicle with a trimotor powertrain. It’s also the world’s pioneer all-electric super-sports sedan. Apart from new additions to its lineup, the company continues to improve the Lucid Air with additional features via software updates.
