Lucasfilm Confirms Next Star Wars Movie Plans – Jedi Origin, Mandalorian Movie, & Rey’s Return

Lucasfilm has officially confirmed they intend to follow through with their next Star Wars movie projects. At Star Wars Celebration 2023, Lucasfilm announced several upcoming Star Wars movies that would focus on three different eras of Star Wars. This included the origin of the Jedi explored in James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi movie, Daisy Ridley’s return as Rey Skywalker for Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s new Jedi Order movie, and Dave Filoni’s culmination event of The Mandalorian-era in a Mandalorian movie – but the effects of the long-running strikes in Hollywood in addition to Lucasfilm’s past tendencies to cancel movie projects has since left their true fate somewhat unknown.

Now, Lucasfilm has confirmed in an interview with Vanity Fair they are still planning to move forward with all of these new Star Wars movies. These key projects are described as being “still on the books,” despite any rising doubts about them actually being seen through. This is in addition to the upcoming Star Wars TV shows, most notably the High Republic’s The Acolyte and The Mandalorian-era’s Skeleton Crew. The future of Star Wars movies, then, continues to look bright, especially with these new movies spanning across three different Star Wars eras.

Despite a legacy of canceled movies and other Star Wars ideas, Lucasfilm’s plans as announced at this year’s Star Wars Celebration remain unchanged, which is a somewhat surprising but also exciting truth. These three core Star Wars movie projects will offer viewers plenty of variety in the eras they cover, spanning from the ancient times of the galaxy to a future that hasn’t yet been depicted in any other Star Wars project to date. With the last Star Wars cinematic event taking place all the way back in 2019, viewers can continue to look forward to these three movies, which will hit theaters in the coming years.
