Love, Victor Meets Love, Simon: 5 Friendships That Would Work (& 5 That Wouldn’t)

Love, Victor Meets Love, Simon: 5 Friendships That Would Work (& 5 That Wouldn’t)

Love, Victor is the hit spin-off from the movie Love, Simon and both feature many loveable characters. Many of the teens in both attended Creekwood High but by the events of Love, Victor the Love, Simon characters have already graduated meaning most of them have never met.

If a full crossover ever happens, some of the characters would become the best of friends. However, others would clash bitterly and friendship would be the last thing on their minds. As much as fans love both titular protagonists, would they actually get along?

Wouldn’t: Emily Spier and Isabel Salazar

Love, Victor Meets Love, Simon: 5 Friendships That Would Work (& 5 That Wouldn’t)

Emily is a loving and supportive parent to both Simon and Nora, and she also has a strong and committed relationship with her husband, Jack. Isabel is also a caring, if not slightly overprotective mother but her parenting style differs significantly from Emily’s. Emily is able to accept Simon from the get-go and is happy when he has the courage to come out. Isabel has a much harder time accepting Victor due to her strong religious beliefs.

Emily and Isabel’s widely different parenting styles and beliefs would mean they’re more likely to clash than ever become friends.

Would: Nora Spier and Pilar Salazar

Nora is a sweet and supportive younger sister to Simon. While Pilar isn’t as sweet as Nora, she’s also a caring younger sister. Both Nora and Simon and Pilar and Victor are very close siblings; both sisters are very encouraging when their brothers come out. Pilar is one of the smartest characters in Love, Victor, and provides perfect advice to Felix when he is struggling with his mother.

While Nora has a strong relationship with her parents, Pilar’s is a little more strained so the two girls could certainly learn from each other.

Wouldn’t: Martin Addison and Felix Weston

Martin isn’t exactly the ideal friend — in fact, he’s the friend that no one wants to have. After finding Simon’s romantic emails to the mysterious Blue, Martin uses the information to blackmail him. On the other hand, Felix is the ideal best friend to Victor; he is nothing but supportive when Victor comes out to him.

Later, Felix also worries about Victor’s feelings when he becomes attracted to Pilar. Felix wouldn’t be impressed by Martin’s actions and the two would struggle to understand each other.

Would: Leah Burke and Mia Brooks

Leah is one of Simon’s best friends and one of the first people to support him after he is outed on Creek Secrets. However, she has been in love with Simon for many years and is hurt as she feels like he led her on. Mia offers similar support to Victor even after he breaks her heart.

Leah and Mia have this shared experience in common, although, Mia was properly betrayed by Victor and dealt with the situation considerably better than Leah did. Mia could provide some sound advice to Leah on how to navigate her friendship with Simon going forward.

Wouldn’t: Jack Spier and Harold Brooks

Jack is a loving family man and husband, and his children’s happiness is paramount to him. He even runs a support group for parents of LGBT children to show his support of Simon. While Harold clearly cares about his daughter, he makes Mia feel like an afterthought on many occasions. When he is given a new job, Mia begs him not to accept so she can stay at Creekwood; Harold agrees but then accepts the job anyway.

Jack would have a hard time understanding Harold’s decision to put a job above his daughter’s feelings as he always put his children first, no matter what.

Would: Abby Suso and Lake Meriwether

Split image showing Abby in Love, Simon and Lake in Love, Victor

Abby is one of Simon’s close friends at Creekwood High, and she has a bubbly and outgoing personality. Similarly, Lake is confident and bright. The two girls both have divorced parents, so they could certainly bond over their family dynamics.

Also, the season 2 finale of Love, Victor hints at an attraction between Lake and Lucy and suggests Lake will explore her sexuality in the next season. In the Love, Simon spin-off book, Leah on the Offbeat Abby also explores her sexuality when she gets into a relationship with Leah. Abby and Lake seem to have a lot in common, which is solid grounds for a friendship.

Wouldn’t: Bram Greenfeld and Derek

Split image showing Bram in Love, Simon and Derek in Love, Victor

At the end of Love, Simon, Bram is revealed as Simon’s secret admirer. Bram is caring and sweet-natured and when he eventually appears in Love, Victor it is clear that he’s a committed partner to Simon.

Derek’s idea of being a boyfriend is very different from Bram’s; Derek comes across as selfish and cold towards Benjy. In fact, Derek even forgets the couple’s one-year anniversary. Where his top priority seems to be himself, Bram puts Simon first. Bram and Derek seem like complete opposites.

Would: Jack Spier and Armando Salazar

Split image showing Jack in Love, Simon and Armando in Love, Victor

Jack is a key member of the PFLAG meetings which shows just how supportive he is of Simon. Armando has a harder time coming to terms with Victor’s sexuality but decides to join PFLAG too. Armando going to the PFLAG meeting is one of the best scenes in Love, Victor.

Jack and Armando briefly meet in the second season of Love, Victor and Armando is keen to learn from Jack. If their initial meeting is anything to go on, these two dads could become close friends, and Jack could become a long-term support for Armando.

Wouldn’t: Martin Addison and Victor Salazar

Split image showing Martin in Love, Simon and Victor in Locve, Victor

Martin does a terrible thing when he blackmails Simon and bullies him in an effort to get close to Abby. In the second season of Love, Victor, Victor stands up for Mia against the homophobes on the basketball team.

Victor certainly wouldn’t approve of Martin’s treatment of Simon, especially considering his reaction to bullying during his own time at Creekwood. Like with most of Simon’s friends, Victor and Martin would probably become bitter enemies if they ever crossed paths.

Would: Simon Spier and Victor Salazar

Throughout Love, Simon, Simon is able to come to terms with his sexuality and enters a relationship with Bram Greenfeld. Victor begins an online friendship with Simon, whom he hopes can give him advice. At the end of Love, Victor season 1, Simon and Victor meet in person, and — despite an awkward misunderstanding — become friends. In a symbolic passing of the baton, Simon gives Victor his iconic denim jacket. While understandable, Victor moving away from Simon at the end of the second season was an upsetting moment and many fans will be hoping to see the boys reconnect and become proper friends in the future.
