Snapchat is changing the way users restore their Snapstreak. The popular feature that allows users to keep track of the number of days they’ve sent Snaps to each other is one of the main attractions of the app. To recall, the platform released Snapstreaks in 2016 as a part of the Snapchat 2.0 update. Today, users worldwide love maintaining high Snapstreaks with friends and family. Although, there are times when they aren’t able to send Snaps and end up losing their Snapstreak.

Until 2022, users could restore their Snapstreak by reporting it via the ‘I lost my Snapstreak‘ option on Snapchat support page. However, that is going to change soon. The platform is testing a new feature, Streak Restore, that enables users to resume broken streaks from the app itself. Per a newsroom post published on Mar. 1, 2023, Snapchat is testing a feature to help users “restore one Streak for free with just one tap.” Since the feature is in the trial phase, it is rolling out to users gradually and might not be available for everyone yet.

When this feature reaches everyone, the support page for restoring streaks won’t be available. Hence, the only way to restore Snapstreaks in 2023 would be the in-app feature. Snapchat’s support page mentions that if users recently lost their Snapstreak, they can restore it from the chat feed. As seen in an image shared by the platform, users will see the restore option beside their friends’ names, along with the details of the expired streak. Snapchat will also show them a banner that will remind users of the same and allow them to take action. While users might think it would be a more convenient option, there’s a catch.

Snapchatters can only restore one streak for free using the Streak Restore feature. And that’s not just one per user; users only get to restore one streak irrespective of how many friends they have. After that, they would have to pay 99 cents for each they feel like reviving. Since users have filled out an entire form, which asks for several details like username, email ID, phone number, model, and more, there’s a good chance they would pay to get the streak back.

For all intents and purposes, the Streak Restore feature is the company’s attempt to get more cash. Last year, Snapchat’s parent company, Snap, mentioned in a filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission that due to poor revenue growth, it would shift its focus from experimental or non-monetized features, like Snap Games, to products that can help the company generate more money. Nonetheless, Snapchat is also working on an exclusive feature for paid users that will allow users to pause their streaks in case they want to take a break from the platform.
