Lord Of The Rings Enters World Of Naruto In Anime Art (& The Balrog Fight Is Epic)

The Lord of the Rings enters the anime world of Naruto in a new batch of AI images. Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy adapts the beloved fantasy novels by author J.R.R. Tolkien, with the first film releasing in 2001 and the last in 2003. The story follows Frodo (Elijah Wood), a Hobbit who embarks on an epic journey across the vast land of Middle-earth to destroy the all-powerful One Ring. Frodo is joined on his quest by a number of trusty companions, but also encounters a host of monstrous enemies, including a Balrog.

In a new batch of AI-generated images shared by AI Dreams, Frodo and the rest of the Lord of the Rings cast become anime creations in the style of Naruto, a popular anime. Check out the art below:

The art features Naruto versions of the Eye of Sauron, Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas, Gollum, Gimli, Arwen, and Sam, and even features a new take on Gandalf’s epic battle with the Balrog in the Mines of Moria.

Since Jackson’s Oscar-winning trilogy, the world of The Lord of the Rings has stayed firmly in the realm of live-action. After Jackson’s divisive Hobbit trilogy, the Tolkien franchise has lived on with Prime Video’s The Rings of Power, which serves as a prequel, of sorts. An upcoming project in the world of Middle-earth, however, is set to serve as the franchise’s biggest foray into animation since the 1978 movie.

Sola Entertainment’s The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is expected to hit theaters later this year, telling a story set more than 200 years before Frodo’s epic quest. The film, which is directed by Kenji Kamiyama with New Line and Warner Bros. producing, will tell the story of Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan responsible for the creation of Helm’s Deep. Helm’s Deep memorably served as the setting for the final battle sequence in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

While many questions remain about The War of the Rohirrim and no trailer has yet been released, the film will feature the voice acting talents of Brian Cox as Helm, with Miranda Otto reprising her role as Eowyn. Other actors set to voice characters include Shaun Dooley, Luke Pasqualino, and Gaia Wise, among others. It remains to be seen how the upcoming The Lord of the Rings anime will compare to the art above, but the film will evidently serve as an exciting new step for the franchise.
