Loki Switches Tom Hiddleston & Owen Wilson’s Previous Roles

Loki brings Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson together again, and their roles in this Marvel TV show switch those of their previous work together. With the Infinity Saga now over after the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is ready to move forward with a new wave of content. The highly-anticipated Phase 4 will not only cover the movie side of this universe, as TV shows will now be an active part of it, beginning with WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. These TV projects won’t just be about heroes, as a fan-favorite bad guy is getting his own TV show: Loki.

The TV show, simply titled Loki, will bring Tom Hiddleston back into the MCU as the God of Mischief, who was killed by Thanos at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War – however, during the time heist in Avengers: Endgame, a couple of mistakes made way for the escape of Loki from 2012, making it possible for Hiddleston to return. Loki, then, will follow the title character as he’s captured by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) and forced to fix multiple timelines he broke while traveling through time, but this will lead to him being trapped in his own crime thriller. Joining Hiddleston in this new adventure is Owen Wilson, who will play Mobius M. Mobius, a member of the TVA.

Mobius will play a big role in Loki’s arc, and he has been seen by his side on multiple occasions in the trailers released so far. Mobius isn’t a superpowered character, but in the comics, he has come across a variety of characters who have messed with time for different reasons. Judging by the trailers, Mobius will be a guide to Loki during his time working for the TVA, as the God of Mischief will surely be quite confused as to where he has been traveling to, why he was arrested, and everything he will be asked to do by the TVA. With Wilson being the guide and Loki the one that needs guidance, Loki is switching their roles from their previous work together: Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris.

Loki Switches Tom Hiddleston & Owen Wilson’s Previous Roles

The comedy-drama Midnight in Paris follows Gil Pender (Owen Wilson), a screenwriter vacationing in Paris with his fiancée and who finds himself traveling back in time every day at midnight thanks to an old car that takes him to the 1920s. There he meets various artists, as are Ernest Hemingway (Corey Stoll) and Pablo Picasso (Marcial Di Fonzo Bo), as well as the Fitzgeralds – Zelda and Scott, played by Alison Pill and Tom Hiddleston. In Midnight in Paris, Wilson’s Gil is the man out of time, and Hiddleston’s F. Scott Fitzgerald is his guide in the 1920s, while in Loki, the title character is the one out of time and Mobius’ role is to show Loki how things in the TVA and the multiverse are supposed to work.

It’s a fun exchange of roles and a curious coincidence how the two times Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson have worked together, time-travel has been involved, and one doesn’t belong in the time of the other. It’s yet to be seen if the relationship between Loki and Mobius will be as good as that of Gil and F. Scott Fitzgerald, but there will surely be some fun moments when these two share the screen.
