Loki Season 2 Reportedly Expected To Begin Filming This Summer

Loki season 2 will reportedly begin filming this summer in England. The Thor spinoff series starring the God of Mischief was the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first deep dive into the multiverse, a key concept driving multiple films and shows in Phase 4, including Spider-Man: No Way Home. Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, finds himself trapped within the headquarters of the Time Variance Authority (TVA), a group tasked with maintaining the order of time. With the help of Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson), Loki discovers alternate versions of his identity, including a female counterpart, Sylvie (Sophie Di Martino).

The show’s finale had Loki and Sylvie coming face-to-face with the creator of the TVA, a character dubbed He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors). Their subsequent face-off eventually led to the breaking of the Sacred Timeline, sending the multiverse into disarray. Loki season 1 then ended on a cliffhanger, and a post-credits scene showed the titular character’s case file, stamped with the words, “Loki will return in season 2.”

Now, it appears season 2 is getting ready to begin production. While neither Disney nor Marvel Studios have made official announcements, filming will reportedly begin this summer at Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom, according to casting call website and magazine Backstage. The site also reports that casting “is likely to be led again by Sarah Finn and Krista Husar, with Jacqueline Gallagher, Gregory Korn, and Lory Shaye.”

Loki Season 2 Reportedly Expected To Begin Filming This Summer

As with most Marvel films and shows, the next season of Loki comes with high anticipation as many wait to see the repercussions of Loki and Sylvie’s actions. Some viewers critiqued the Loki finale for seemingly creating more loose ends rather than tying them all together, but season 2 may provide more answers to questions posed in season 1. The next season may include characters or references to Phase 4 films as well, though that’s yet to be seen.

Interestingly, Loki was not referenced in Spider-Man: No Way Home, despite the fact that both plots centered around the multiverse. So far, WandaVision has been the only Disney+ show that makes a direct connection to the films of Phase 4, with Wanda appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. There are rumors that Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s character, Ravonna Renslayer, may make an appearance in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but nothing has been confirmed. For the most part, Loki‘s connections with the MCU’s overall storyline remain a mystery, unless Marvel has some surprise cameos up their sleeve.

Nonetheless, fans should expect Marvel to keep relatively quiet about Loki season 2’s plotline and other details, at least for the time being. Sometimes, high-profile productions even take on code names for titles and characters to avoid any possible leaks about the project, so those answering the casting call for Loki may not even realize what they’re auditioning for until later in the process. It all adds to the intrigue surrounding one of Marvel’s trippiest and most complicated shows to date, which will no doubt have many peeled to their screens once Loki season 2 drops on Disney+.
