Following the Loki season 2 premiere, the Marvel Cinematic Universe show has broken new records for Disney+ after a long struggle with some of the recent shows. Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief is finally back in the Marvel timeline as Loki season 2 premiered this month. With Loki being the only MCU live-action show on Disney+ to have gotten a season 2 renewal, the world has patiently been waiting to see how the multiverse-based story continues.
With all the anticipation for Loki season 2, it turns out that the waiting was a big payoff Disney+ and Marvel Studios. In a new report from Deadline, Loki season 2’s debut garnered 10.9 million views in the first three days on the Disney-branded service. Sadly, despite the success, it’s unlikely Loki season 3 will happen. Only The Mandalorian season 3 premiere has pulled in more viewers for Disney+ in 2023.
Why Loki Bucks The Trend Of MCU Shows
Loki season 2 episode 1 getting to almost 11 million views is crucial in light of how the MCU has been facing its ups and downs when it comes to its shows. Looking at more recent shows, Secret Invasion was only seen by 994,000 viewers, making it their second lowest-viewed MCU series premiere to date, with Ms. Marvel’s first episode only having 775,000 viewers. It also helps the MCU that Loki season 2 is a major component of The Multiverse Saga, especially with the continued focus on Kang.
Outside of the MCU shows, Disney+ had a huge premiere with Ahsoka’s season 1 premiere, which pulled in 14 million views. The only difference with Ahsoka’s ratings was that those numbers were over five days rather than three days, like in the case of Loki season 2 and other Disney+ shows. Given how big Loki season 1 was, it was no surprise that the season 2 premiere would have even more millions of viewers tune in after such an extended hiatus.
Time will tell how other Loki season 2 episodes will be received, especially as it pertains to The Multiverse Saga. Since Marvel Studios has been keeping Loki season 2 under wraps for the most part, the viewership is bound to grow as the world tunes in to find out how this season progresses the future of Phases 5 and 6. Hopefully, Loki season 2’s viewership will continue to grow as the remaining episodes air in the coming weeks.
