Loki Season 2 Cliffhanger Secretly Sets Up A Long Awaited MCU Sequel According To Clever Theory

The much-anticipated sequel to one of Phase 4’s most popular Disney+ shows may have been teased thanks to the cliffhanger ending of Loki season 2. Marvel Studios’ Loki was delivered as a standalone series in the MCU, not connecting directly to the wider franchise, but setting up huge concepts that have been explored in subsequent MCU projects. Most notably, Loki season 1 introduced the multiverse to the MCU, which has been investigated by Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, the Scarlet Witch, and Ant-Man in later releases. Loki season 2’s ending also teased audiences with a subtle connection to a recently-introduced character, hinting at a bright future for the popular Phase 4 hero.

In Loki season 2’s epic finale, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki – equipped with his new time-slipping ability – fought alongside his friends at the Time Variance Authority to adjust the Temporal Loom, making it capable of taking the volume of new branches created after the Sacred Timeline’s destruction. After realizing this was impossible, Loki destroyed the Loom and assumed its role for himself, gathering the branching timelines and sitting watch over the multiverse as its new protector. However, the fates of Loki’s other characters were left unanswered, with the likes of Mobius, Sylvie, Ouroboros and Ravonna Renslayer having uncertain MCU futures, but a new theory may explain the latter’s next steps.

Ravonna Renslayer’s Fate In Loki Season 2 Is Left Ambiguous

Gugu Mbatha-Raw debuted as Ravonna Renslayer in Loki season 1, initially depicted as a judge at the TVA, though she eventually went rogue after learning that the god-like Time Keepers were a front. Renslayer worked with Miss Minutes in Loki season 2 to recruit and manipulate Victor Timely, a 19th Century variant of He Who Remains and Kang the Conqueror, but this mission would lead to her being pruned by Sylvie and sent to the Void. Renslayer woke in the Void in Loki season 2’s finale, and while she appears to have been met by Alioth, her actual fate at the end of Loki season 2 has been left ambiguous.

Loki Season 2 Teases A Perfect Moon Knight Set-Up

Marvel Studios cleverly hid several connections to Ancient Egyptian culture and the MCU’s Moon Knight series throughout Loki season 2, including an ankh earring worn by Sylvie, and Casey listening to Marc Spector’s Staying Awake podcast in Loki season 2’s premiere episode. Another link was made in the final moments of Loki season 2’s finale, as a pyramid can be seen in the distance when Ravonna Renslayer wakes up in the Void. Kang the Conqueror and his variants have been a major part of the Loki series, so this is a natural connection to Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Rama-Tut, who debuted in the mid-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

In Marvel Comics, Ravonna Renslayer and Kang the Conqueror variant Rama-Tut have a curious connection. Different versions of Ravonna Renslayer routinely popped up throughout Kang’s many lives, with her and the villain forming a love-hate relationship, but during the reign of Rama-Tut, Ravonna operated as the Moon Knight, the avatar to the Egyptian God of the Moon Khonshu. Oscar Isaac was introduced as the MCU’s Moon Knight in Phase 4, and his debut series did include a tease to Rama-Tut prior to his appearance in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, so it’s possible the villain, and potentially even Ravonna Renslayer, could appear in the as-yet unannounced Moon Knight season 2.

Moon Knight Season 2 Seem More Likely Than Ever

Following the release of Phase 4’s Moon Knight, the silence surrounding a potential Moon Knight season 2 suggested that the continuation of the series and of Oscar Isaac’s titular antihero may have been in jeopardy. Marvel Studios has recently confirmed a huge overhaul of the MCU’s Disney+ shows, however, suggesting that more shows will receive second seasons, and fewer new characters would be introduced on Disney’s streaming platform. This could hint at Moon Knight – one of Phase 4’s most popular Disney+ shows – could finally get its much-anticipated second season, which could continue not only Marc Spector’s storyline, but also Ravonna Renslayer’s story from Loki season 2.

Despite huge speculation, Moon Knight season 2 has yet to be confirmed by Marvel Studios, so it’s unclear whether this potential follow-up will be release as part of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga or come later. Should it release before 2026’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and the end of the Multiverse Saga, however, Rama-Tut would be the perfect villain to develop in Moon Knight season 2, as his existence in Ancient Egypt connects directly to the pantheon of Egyptian deities introduced in Moon Knight. With Egyptian iconography appearing throughout Loki season 2, Moon Knight season 2 could be the best opportunity to continue storylines established in the Phase 5 series.
