Lizzie McGuire: 10 Things We Hope To See In The Reboot

Lizzie McGuire: 10 Things We Hope To See In The Reboot

Lizzie McGuire was the show all ’90s-early ’00s kids watched growing up on The Disney Channel. It showed the trials and tribulations that our heroine — Lizzie — went through while navigating the highs and lows of being a teenage girl in middle school. It followed Lizzie, her friends, her crushes, and even the school bullies.

With the reboot on Disney+ now on the horizon and Hilary Duff giving us constant updates on new developments with the series, we are chomping at the bit to see what direction this highly anticipated reboot is going to go in. There are things we feel we absolutely need to see in this new reboot or we’ll feel seriously cheated. So without further ado, here are the 10 things we hope to see in the Lizzie McGuire reboot.

Lizzie’s Life As An Independent New Yorker

Lizzie McGuire: 10 Things We Hope To See In The Reboot

When the reboot picks up, Lizzie is about to turn 30 years old, is engaged to a successful restaurant owner, and has her dream job in New York with a great apartment in Brooklyn.

We want to see as much of Lizzie’s new life in New York as possible. As a teenager, she was far from having everything together in her life, so it would be amazing to see her thriving in the city with her fancy job. Being able to watch her become an independent and strong woman in this reboot would make us feel like we’ve seen Lizzie’s life come full circle.

Her Family Playing A Pivotal Role

When Lizzie was younger and still figuring out how to navigate the world in middle school, her parents and younger brother played a large role in her life. Whether they were giving her advice or a hard time and were just there when she needed a shoulder to cry on, they played an integral part in both the show and her life.

Now that we know the actors who played her mom, dad, and brother are all returning to reprise their roles in the reboot, we would love to see them play just as big of a role in her current life as a 30-year old woman as they did when she was 13 years old.

Exciting Celebrity Guest Stars

Throughout Lizzie McGuire’s initial run on Disney, there were some incredible celebrity guest stars who came on the show. Frankie Muniz came on at the peak of his career and played himself. Lizzie ended up befriending him as he was in town shooting a movie, which made for a fun storyline.

Then there was Steven Tyler from Aerosmith singing on top of her Christmas parade float. And finally, who could forget her kiss under the mistletoe with Aaron Carter? So it would be perfect for fans of the original to see modern-day celebrity guest stars grace our screens in this reboot – especially since even Lizzo has expressed interest in being on it!

A Romance Between Gordo And Lizzie

It was just announced that Adam Lamberg will be officially returning as Lizzie’s best friend, Gordo. He also had a huge crush on Lizzie in the original series, and the series left off with things being open-ended between the two friends.

Since the reboot was announced, fans were dying for him to sign on for the reboot, and also wanted to see a potential romance between Lizzie and Gordo. This would mean her engagement would need to end, of course, but it would be worth it to see the two finally act on the feelings they had for each other all those years ago. Maybe there’s still something there between them, after all…

An Update To Animated Lizzie

Lizzie McGuire

Animated Lizzie was just as much a main character of the original series as the three-dimensional Lizzie we know and love. She would narrate the series and give us a deeper look into the mind of Lizzie as she tried to navigate her complicated world. Turns out, animated Lizzie will be making a return in the reboot, as well.

It’s unclear in what way they are going to incorporate her and it’s even less clear if she is going to still be dressed as her 13-year old self or not. We would rather see an updated, modern take on Lizzie in her 30-year old form. Most of the viewers will now be adults as well and would rather not see her jumping in and out with her take on things as a 13-year-old still.

References To The Original Show

Lizzie McGuire

Even though this reboot will be on Disney+ which is a streaming service many children will be watching, there will still be plenty of adults who are Disney fans. Not to mention there are plenty of fans of Lizzie McGuire who watched her from the start of her series.

So how could we possibly get on board with the reboot and watch it without a reference to the original? It just wouldn’t work. We want references to their style back then, their friendships, their crushes, and their most embarrassing moments. We want to feel like no time has passed at all since we originally watched the first series.

New Fashion Moments For Lizzie

Lizzie was known for a lot of things, and setting fashion trends for tweens in the early-’00s was one of them. Many young girls would watch the show and instantly want to wear what Lizzie was wearing that week.

We would even change our hairstyle to mimic Lizzie’s look! So we would love to see Lizzie have just as many iconic fashion moments in this new series as she did in the original. We may be adults now, but surely we’ll want to see how Lizzie’s style has evolved over time and maybe even try to emulate her fashion sense once again in the modern age.

Ethan Playing A Role In The Show

Ethan Craft was the not-so-bright but incredibly dreamy guy Lizzie had a crush on all throughout her middle school years. He was the perfect representation of the guy everyone would have a crush on in school but would be highly unattainable because of that fact.

Hilary Duff has said that Ethan will be returning for the reboot and that there will “be a thing” between the two. As much as we are rooting for Gordo, this news has us pretty excited for Lizzie and what this means for her and her former crush. We would like to see even a short romance occur between the two before she moves on with Gordo.

Miranda Coming Back As Her Best Friend

While many former cast members of the original series have been confirmed to return for the reboot, we still haven’t heard if Lalaine will be coming back to play Miranda, Lizzie’s best friend from their school years.

The two girls always had each other’s back, even when the going got tough, and it would be great to see such a supportive and familiar fixture in Lizzie’s life in the new reboot. We are hoping to hear news of this being confirmed any day now, but until then, we will just have to hope that she makes her return sooner rather than later.

Lizzie Showing Her Vulnerability As Much As Her Wins

While we cannot wait to see Lizzie living her best life in New York and succeeding in her career and love life, we also know that no one’s life is perfect — not even her’s. So when those moments come up and her life isn’t as picturesque as she had once hoped, we want to see Lizzie’s vulnerability shine through as much as it did when she was a teenager.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a child or an adult, you are bound to experience highs and lows in life, and we want to see the lows just as much as the highs so Lizzie’s life feels more relatable. Just like it did when we were growing up.
