Lindsay Lohan’s Rom-Com Return Is The Perfect Chance For A Sequel To This 20-Year-Old Disney Movie

Lindsay Lohan is making a comeback to the rom-com genre, and it’s the perfect chance for Disney to make a sequel to an often-forgotten rom-com from 20 years ago. Lindsay Lohan rose to fame as a Disney star in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with her breakout movie being the 1998 family comedy The Parent Trap, where she played dual roles of twins Annie and Hallie. Lohan’s success continued in the 2003 Disney fantasy comedy Freaky Friday, starring alongside Jamie Lee Curtis. From then on, Lohan was part of a variety of movies, but she’s still most known for her work in rom-coms.

However, Lohan’s popularity began to decline in the mid-2000s, with the rom-com Just My Luck being her last notable performance. Lohan started taking smaller roles in more mature movies without much success, and, in addition to personal and health struggles, Lohan ended up appearing in forgettable movies and TV shows. In 2022, Netflix and Lohan made a deal that would bring her back to rom-coms, starting with the Christmas movie Falling For Christmas. Lohan’s rom-com return continues with Irish Wish, and it’s the perfect chance for Disney to make a sequel to a beloved Lohan-led rom-com.

Lindsay Lohan’s Rom-Com Return Can Finally Make Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen 2 Happen

Lindsay Lohan’s deal with Netflix includes one more movie after Falling for Christmas and Irish Wish, titled Our Little Secret, and planned for a late 2024 release, completing an exciting rom-com comeback for Lohan. No matter how well or badly Irish Wish and Our Little Secret are received, Lohan’s return is a big moment in her career, which Disney has already seized by greenlighting Freaky Friday 2, but should go further with a sequel to Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen.

In 2004, Lohan starred in Disney’s musical comedy Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen as Mary Elizabeth Cep a.k.a. Lola, a 15-year-old girl from New York City who moved to the suburbs of Dellwood, New Jersey, with her mother and twin sisters. Lola dreamed of becoming an actress and was a huge fan of rock band Sidarthur, through which she bonded with unpopular girl Ella Gerard (Alison Pill), but brought her trouble with wealthy and popular girl Carla Santini (Megan Fox). On top of that, Lola was a compulsive liar, making up stories to increase her popularity and feel like she was living in a movie.

Despite not being a hit with critics, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen is now seen as one of Lohan’s most underrated projects and performances, and out of all her Disney movies, it’s the one with the most potential for a sequel. Disney moving forward with Freaky Friday 2 21 years after the first movie’s release means there’s hope for other movies to get late sequels, and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen should be next now that Lohan is making her big comeback.

What Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen 2 Could Be About

Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen Ella and Lola outside the venue

Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen left a couple of questions that can be answered or addressed in a sequel and even be the basis for the story. At the end of Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen, Lola triumphed as the star of her school’s play, and at the after-party at Carla’s house, her only true story was proven to be authentic when Lola’s favorite rockstar, Stu Wolff (Adam Garcia), arrived to see her and give her back her necklace. This proved that Carla was also a liar, but despite everything that happened between them, Lola and Carla were at peace with each other.

Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen 2 could show whether Lola became a famous actress or not, and if it’s the latter, how she coped with that and what her next big plan is, as she always had a plan for everything. Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen 2 could even focus on Lola’s daughter or son and their own goals, and it would be fun to see how Lola, as eccentric and a big liar as she is, has raised her children. It’s to be seen where Lindsay Lohan’s rom-com return will take her and which projects could be revived or expanded.
