Lily Gladstone’s Next Movie After Killers Of The Flower Moon Revealed

Killers of the Flower Moon star Lily Gladstone is reteaming with Martin Scorsese for her next movie, The Memory Police. The actress stars in the legendary director’s latest masterpiece as Mollie Kyle, an Osage woman who narrowly survives a scheme to steal her family’s oil rights. Gladstone’s powerful performance earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, making history as the first Native American woman to be nominated in that category. Scorsese also made history with his tenth nomination for Best Director, surpassing Steven Spielberg as the most Oscar-nominated director of all time.

Now, hot on the heels of their historic Oscar nominations, Gladstone is reteaming with Scorsese for her next movie, The Memory Police. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Killers of the Flower Moon breakout is attached to star in the adaptation of the acclaimed 1994 science fiction novel by Yoko Ogawa. Reed Morano, who has helmed episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale, will direct with a script written by Charlie Kaufman. Scorsese is on board as an executive producer.

What To Expect From The Memory Police

The Memory Police will feature a very different type of performance from Gladstone compared to Killers of the Flower Moon, which chronicled a true American tragedy. Her next movie will feature a script by Charlie Kaufman, the Oscar-winning screenwriter behind surreal and mind-bending movies like Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The story, based on Ogawa’s sci-fi novel, is said to have “tones of Franz Kafka and George Orwell.”

Ogawa’s novel is a parable that takes place on an undisclosed island where many of the inhabitants experience a shared amnesia, which is engineered by an organization known as The Memory Police. The narrative follows a novelist who attempts to hide her editor, who still has his memory, from the eponymous organization, while he encourages her to continue writing her book. The Memory Police was originally published in 1994, followed by an English translation in 2019, with the novel receiving many literary awards.

Though Scorsese won’t be in the director’s chair for Gladstone’s next movie, another acclaimed director will take his place. For directing the pilot episode of The Handmaid’s Tale, Reed Morano is distinguished as the only woman in history to win an Emmy and a DGA in the same year. Some of her feature films include Meadowland, I Think Were Alone Now, and The Rhythm Section. With such a talented team on board, The Memory Police will be an intriguing project to watch.
