Lilo & Stitch Live-Action Movie Gets Story Tease From Star

Billy Magnussen teases story details about the forthcoming Lilo & Stitch live-action remake. The original 2002 animated movie, which was directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, follows a young girl who adopts a mysterious alien experiment named Stitch as her pet dog. Lilo & Stitch’s release was met with huge success, spawning a number of sequels, TV shows, and now a live-action remake, which has been in the works for several years now.

Now, with the release of the Lilo & Stitch live-action remake inching closer, Magnussen, who is expected to play Agent Pleakley in the movie, teased its story in an interview with GamesRadar+. He said that the remake is one “about connection, and a kid trying to find a friend.“ Read his full comments below:

I don’t think you can compare pieces of art to each other. I adored working with everyone in this. Rideback was the producing house making this film, and I did Aladdin with them. Again, it’s a story about connection, and a kid trying to find a friend, and all you can do is approach a project like that with love. I am so grateful and honored to be a part of that project.

What Else To Expect From The Lilo & Stitch Live-Action Remake

Reports of a Lilo & Stitch live-action remake first began to surface in 2018. Since then, the project has experienced quite a lengthy development process and production schedule. However, following much speculation and prolonged delays, a couple of set photos in Hawaii confirmed that the remake was finally moving along in 2023.

A number of talented actors have already been confirmed to star in the Lilo & Stitch live-action movie. Chris Sanders will return to play Stitch, while Lilo will be portrayed by Maia Kealoha. Other cast members include Courtney B. Vance and Sydney Agudong. While Kahiau Machado was initially cast to play David Kawena, Disney later recast the role after discovering social media posts where Machado used racial slurs; Kaipo Dudoit will now play David.

As Magnussen hinted, the story of Lilo & Stitch will most likely follow the original movie closely, exploring the endearing dynamic between the franchise’s main protagonists. However, it is also possible that Disney will incorporate additional new plot points in the remake, and it’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out when the movie eventually gets released.
