Lilo & Stitch: 5 Reasons Lilo Is The Best Character (& 5 Reasons Stitch Is Better)

Lilo & Stitch is a fantastic Disney movie, and it is the two lead characters themselves that really are responsible for that. The relationship that they develop throughout the movie is great to watch, especially as Stitch learns and develops about what family means to him.

While they’re certainly a lot of fun together as a duo, having great chemistry together everyone does have their favorites when it comes to this fantastic pair. Each character offers something very different to the movie overall, and that helps them stand out from one another. But which of the two lead characters is best, and why?

Lilo: Her Sister Bond

While the relationship between Lilo and Stitch is often the talking point from this movie, it is actually the closeness between Lilo and Nani that really drives this movie. Their sisterly bond is such an important part of the story, and the ups and downs that they go through really are fantastic.

While their relationship may not always be perfect, they certainly do love each other, and seeing them overcome the obstacles in their way really helps to make them loveable characters. The movie is essentially all about Lilo getting her life back together, along with her sister, and Stitch is simply a byproduct of that.

Stitch: His Loyalty

While there are clearly points when Stitch isn’t loyal and doesn’t quite understand, in the end, Stitch proves himself to be an unbelievably loyal character, who loves Lilo and pushes himself to help her as much as possible. Because he’s so loyal, he ends up being a very popular character.

Even though Lilo is also a very loyal character, the difference and changes within the character really helps to make him one of the greatest Disney characters of all time, and it is such a crucial point in this movie.

Lilo: She’s Eccentric

Lilo is an amazing personality who really lives by her own standards to the beat of her own drum. She can be very over the top, and that is what makes her such a unique character. She’s very eccentric and she has no problem in doing whatever she wants.

Whether it’s her temper tantrums or her over-the-top explanation of not wanting to feed her pet fish tuna, Lilo is absolutely hilarious. Her personality is unlike anything else within the movie, and that makes her such a brilliant character.

Stitch: The Elvis Scenes

When it comes to this movie, one of the scenes that really stands out is when Stitch dresses up as Elvis Presley, dancing around and playing the guitar with Lilo. While it’s only one small scene in the movie, it ends up being one of the most iconic in Disney’s history.

People often know Stitch in this manner and because Elvis’ music plays such a big part in the entire movie, having Stitch actually be the famous rock and roll star is just a great moment and it makes him stand out.

Lilo: Sassy Comments

Something that is often very underrated about Lilo is just how funny she is as a character. Lilo comes out with some incredible one-liners throughout the movie, and she is certainly not low on confidence, often giving some incredibly sassy comments towards other people.

This is mainly true in regards to Lilo and her sister, as she comes out with some hilarious lines, especially because Lilo is far wiser than her actual age at times. It’s a brilliant part of Lilo’s personality and it really allows her to stand out.

Stitch: Physical Comedy

While Lilo brings a lot of verbal comedy, coming out with some very funny lines to other characters, Stitch is also a lot of fun. However, his comedy is often thanks to physical moments. His character is able to react to things and showcase his unique abilities a lot more than other characters.

The physical comedy that Stitch brings helps to make him one of the best characters in Disney history and is why a lot of people do prefer this alien over Lilo.

Lilo: She Connects Everyone

Lilo and Stitch are the two lead characters that the entire movie is based around. However, it is Lilo that actually connects all of the characters to each other, which is what makes her such a great character. It is Lilo who has a relationship with Nani and that brings the childcare question marks which is such a crucial part of the movie.

Then it is Lilo who gets Stitch and her desire to care for him and love him is what turns Stitch into a better character, but that also brings the other characters from out of space into Hawaii to be part of the movie as well.

Stitch: More Action

Lilo & Stitch is more about the family aspects and the emotions that come with that as opposed to big action sequences. However, out of the two, it is Stitch that brings that action that does take place, as he is born to be like that.

The limited fight scenes that do take place, particularly when Lilo is captured, is what makes Stitch such a great character. He’s someone who is willing to do everything for those he loves, and that makes Stitch brilliant.

Lilo: More Emotion

Stitch goes through a lot of emotions within this movie, and it is visibly clear to see throughout. However, Lilo is certainly a more emotional character, learning all about the importance of family and trying to develop a better grip on her emotions throughout the movie.

She brings a lot more heart and emotion to the movie overall though with everything that she goes through. Seeing her progress and how she deals with all the complexities thrown her way is what makes Lilo such a tremendous character.

Stitch: He Has More Growth

While Lilo certainly learns valuable lessons throughout the movie, it is Stitch that grows the most as a character. He starts out not understanding the human world, he doesn’t have a grip of his emotions and doesn’t really want to be Lilo’s pet.

However, by the end of the movie, Stitch has learned the valuable lesson of Ohana, and seeing that change from being someone who just causes pure carnage, to a character full of heart and love is one that is a joy to watch.
