Ahead of New York Comic Con, Dynamite Comics has announced a new Lilo & Stitch comic series coming in 2024, set after the events of the iconic Disney film. Stitch and his Ohazina will face new threats in Dynamite’s latest Disney comic expansion, joining its roster of titles including the Disney Villains series, Darkwing Duck, and Gargoyles.
In an NYCC preview, Comics Beat revealed the series, penned by Grek Pak, as well as covers by Jennifer L. Meyer, Joshua Middleton, David Nakayama, and Craig Rousseau.
According to an advance solicitation, the series will involve “mysterious giant robots seeking samples of Stich’s DNA” in an adventure that will take the Disney duo around the world.
Disney’s Lilo & Stitch Return In A Brand New Comic Adventure
Lilo & Stitch will be the duo’s first comic adventure created and published in America; previous comics featuring Stich have been translated manga series from Japan, including Disney Stitch! (2016) and Stitch and the Samurai (2020), both published by TOKYOPOP. This will also be the first Disney comic from Dynamite based on one of the heroes of a major animated feature. Dynamite has had success with its recent Disney Villains line of comics, which serve as prequels, sequels, and side stories offering greater insight into the actions and plans of the company’s greatest animated antagonists. Now, the company will pit two beloved heroes against a new meance.
The series will feature giant robots who covet Stitch’s DNA, with the former Experiment 626 forced to protect his family and home. Stitch was one of a total of 629 experiments created by Dr. Jumba Jookiba. Lilo & Stitch The Series followed the titular duo as they encountered the other experiments, serving as a continuation of the original film before the direct-to-home-video films released. Other series, such as the Japanese anime Stitch!, and the manga, Stitch and the Samurai, provided stories that could be considered alternate universes. This new comic series from Dynamite will likely stay very true to the original source material and add to its lore.
The Lilo & Stich-Verse Continues To Expand With Dynamite’s Sequel Series
Dynamite Comics’ recent Disney series have focused on adding new details and lore to their existing characters and worlds. Hades’ plots before facing Hercules are explored in his titular Disney Villains series, while Cruella de Vil’s upcoming series is slated to provide canine revenge on the animated femme fatale. The company’s slate of Disney Afternoon series, including Darkwing Duck and Gargoyles, have added new, original adventures to beloved heroes’ canon. Lilo & Stitch will likely continue this trend, adding another popular Disney property to its offerings. Fans can keep an eye out for Dynamite Comics’ Lilo & Stitch series, which begins releasing in January 2024.
