LG’s New UltraFine Monitor Is A Proper Rival To Apple’s Pro Display XDR

LG’s New UltraFine Monitor Is A Proper Rival To Apple’s Pro Display XDR

Ahead of CES 2022, LG has unveiled a couple of new UltraFine OLED Pro monitors aimed at creative professionals. These are the follow-ups to the company’s first UltraFine OLED Pro display from earlier this year. The first-generation model shipped with a 31.5-inch 4K OLED display and was one of the very few UHD displays in the mid-range segment of the professional market a launch. These new monitors for next year now promise to offer more options to buyers.

This particular lineup of monitors is not meant for gaming or streaming Netflix. Instead, the company’s ‘pro’ displays are designed for professional visual effects artists, video editors, and other creative industry personnel. Apple’s Pro Display XDR is one of the most recognizable names in this segment, and LG will be hoping that its offerings will compare favorably against the Apple product.

In a press release, LG said that its UltraFine OLED Pro monitor lineup not only includes an updated 31.5-inch model (32BP95E), but also a 27-inch variant (27BP95E) that presumably offers all the pro features and functionality of its larger sibling, but at a more affordable price-point. Apart from the display sizes, the two monitors are otherwise identical in terms of their spec sheet, which includes a 4K UHD (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) resolution and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Like the previous model, they also come with individual pixel dimming for 8 million pixels.

New LG Monitors Available To Buy Next Month

LG’s new UltraFine OLED Pro monitors cover 99-percent of Adobe RGB color space and DCI-P3 color gamut. In addition, they include self-calibration sensors and can be calibrated using the LG Calibration Studio software. There is also a monitor hood to prevent lighting reflections and glare from external light sources. The rest of the tech specs include a USB Type-C port with 90 watts of power delivery, a USB upstream port, three USB downstream ports, one HDMI port, and two DisplayPort sockets. Notably, the monitors can be used vertically and support a 90-degree pivot.

LG will be showing off its new monitor duo at CES 2022 in Las Vegas next month, which is also when they are expected to become available to purchase “in key markets.” The company has yet to reveal pricing, which will likely only be confirmed when they go on sale in a few short weeks from now. Overall, the two new LG monitors sound interesting on paper, but it remains to be seen if they will actually be able to compete with Apple’s upcoming ProMotion monitors.
