LG’s Latest Air Purifier Doubles As A Table

Ahead of IFA 2022 in Berlin, LG Electronics unveiled its latest air purifier with a unique design that also helps it double as a coffee table of sorts. One of the largest conglomerates in South Korea, LG is best known globally for its consumer electronics business that includes smart TVs, refrigerators, air conditioners, and other household gadgets and appliances. The company was also a major player in the smartphone industry until a few years ago, but shuttered its mobile division last year amidst falling sales and mounting losses.

With an increasing number of consumer electronics companies jostling for people’s attention, brands are doing everything possible to stand out from the madding crowd and launch products that offer something unique to buyers. Towards that end, Samsung’s Family Hub smart fridges double as TVs and offer free streaming services with over 200 ad-supported live and on-demand channels. The company also has its ‘The Frame’ line of smart TVs that can be mistaken for works of art, with the thin bezels acting as the photo frame and the screen as the canvas.

Called the PuriCare Objet Collection Aero Furniture, LG’s new air purifier is a follow-up to its PuriCare AeroTower that was demoed at the CES 2022 tech show in Las Vegas alongside the company’s AI-infused smart washing machine. The new air purifier features a cylindrical tower base with a flat table-top that could either be circular or oblong. The base is available in three colors – Crème Rose, Crème Yellow and Crème Gray – and the table tops are also made to match those colors.

Air Purifier Or Work Of Art?

While the tower base of the PuriCare Objet Collection Aero Furniture houses the 360-degree air purifier, the table-top comes with a built-in wireless charging pad that could juice up compatible phones. According to LG, it could charge Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones at 9-10W and Apple’s iPhones at 7.5W. While the company doesn’t say it in as many words, the charging pad is likely Qi-compatible, meaning it should be able to charge up most wireless charging-compatible devices in the market today. As for the device itself, it comes with buttons on the underside of the tabletop, allowing users to control the airflow. It also offers eight mood lighting options that allow users to change the lighting to suit their taste. Buyers can also use the LG ThinQ app on their phone to change the settings, colors, and airflow.

Not content to release the standard PuriCare Objet Collection Aero Furniture, LG further revealed that it is working with renowned artists like Kim Sun-woo to offer “exclusive table-top decorations.” It isn’t immediately clear what that would entail, but the company is definitely marketing the new device as much as an air purifier as a statement art piece that can be displayed in a lounge without looking the least bit staid. In terms of features, the new air purifier comes with the UVnano technology, which LG claims reduces viruses and bacteria by up to 99.99 percent. Detailed specifications and pricing for LG‘s PuriCare Objet Collection Aero Furniture haven’t yet been announced, but it might happen at IFA 2022, where the device will be on display from Sept. 2-6.
