Letterkenny: The Main Characters, Ranked By Likability

Though few people had heard of Letterkenny a couple of years ago, the small Canadian comedy series has quickly developed a strong following of fans. The series is set in rural Ontario, Canada and follows the colorful characters of the titular small town who spend their days throwing hilarious insults at each other.

The core group of characters really bring the show to life, playing on Canadian stereotypes and eccentric small-town personalities. The show is filled with memorable characters, though some are easier to like than others. Have a look at the main characters on Letterkenny, ranked by likability.

McMurray

Letterkenny: The Main Characters, Ranked By Likability

The main group in Letterkenny are “the hicks”, the farmworkers who tend to be more low-key than some of the other Letterkenny citizens. McMurray is part of that group, but he seems like one of the outsiders among them.

McMurray likes to present himself as a man’s man to the point of appearing pathetic. While he is hilarious to listen to, with his odd clenched-jaw way of speaking, he comes off as annoying to the other main characters thanks to his vulgar behavior and in-your-face attitude.

Glen

Glen is the eccentric preacher in Letterkenny. Though he is a friendly man, he’s not someone that anyone really wants to be friends with. Everyone finds him a bit off-putting even as he works in various odd-jobs around the town. He doesn’t really fit into any of the main groups.

Stewart

The skids are a group of young Letterkenny citizens who seem most out of place in the rural community. They are drug-using, black-clothes wearing rebels who are led by Stewart.

While Stewart seems to hold some power over the other skids, the rest of Letterkenny is far less impressed with him. His rebellious attitude just comes off as boring to them and he is ruthlessly mocked for his overly dramatic personality. The fact that he is also pretty awful to his fellow skids makes one wonder how he has any friends at all.

Jonesy

The hockey players in Letterkenny fall in a strange middle ground between likable and unlikable, which is where Jonesy finds himself. Along with his best friend and teammate Reilly, Jonesy is a cocky and dim-witted hockey star who dates Katy and is generally hated by Wayne.

Despite the two being utterly inseparable, Jonesy often feels like a follower of Reilly and sometimes plays second fiddle to his more memorable friend. Still, he does have an unmistakably simple charm.

Reilly

It’s a bit strange to even separate Reilly and Jonesy as characters since they are so similar and do everything together. However, Reilly does get the slight edge as the more likable of the two. He seems to perfectly embody the stereotypical young hockey player attitude, right down to the ridiculous slang.

Reilly is beyond arrogant as an athlete, which can be a little annoying at times. However, he is so childish and is made a fool of so often that he becomes endearing as well.

Katy

Katy is Wayne’s younger sister and a member of “the hicks.” She spends her time hanging out with Wayne and his friends by the produce stand and joining in on their many ridiculous conversations.

While the show makes Katy one of the main gang, it also treats her quite differently than the guys. She is not made as interesting of a character of the others and is simply overly sexualized instead. But despite the sometimes weak writing of Katy, she is a charming character and a welcome member of the main gang.

Tanis

Another key group on the show is “the Natives,” a group of Indigenous citizens of Letterkenny who clash with some other groups but form a bond with “the hicks.” The Natives are led by Tanis, a tough and clever young woman who becomes romantically involved with Wayne.

Tanis brings an interesting new element to the show from the other main characters. She is someone who really knows how to stand up for herself and demands that people earn her respect, but she is also a fearless leader.

Darryl

Darryl is Wayne’s best friend who is always right beside him at the produce stand. Like Wayne, Darryl is a man who likes to keep things relatively simple and enjoys going about his fairly mundane, repetitive life.

He is the perfect companion for the group and gets in on the insults almost as well as Wayne. However, he is a bit of an awkward guy, as Wayne often points out, and can be a bit goofy. It sometimes makes him more lovable but can also be irritating at times.

Squirrely Dan

Another key member of the main group is Squirrely Dan, who is like a giant teddy bear. While Dan can be intimidating when he loses his temper, that is a very rare thing and most of the time, be is just a very lovable guy.

Dan is another person who is easygoing with just about everything in life. He is more open-minded and accepting than some of the other people in town and doesn’t seem very interested in putting others down.

Wayne

Wayne is the main character in Letterkenny and despite his low-key personality, he is a really easy person to like. Wayne is a country boy who values a hard day of work and helping out his community however he can. He is a proud Canadian who will stand up for his culture and people, and he is always willing to fight for the little guy.

Speaking of fighting, Wayne is the self-proclaimed “toughest guy in Letterkenny” and he works hard for that title. When he isn’t punching jerks, he is tearing apart lesser people with vicious and hilarious insults.
