Letterkenny Creator Inks New First Of Its Kind Deal For Shorsey & More Potential Spinoffs

Letterkenny creator and star Jared Keeso signs a first-of-its-kind deal that impacts Shoresy and signals other spinoffs. Debuting on Crave in 2016 from production companies New Metric Media and Bell Media, Letterkenny‘s focus on the people residing in the fictional titular town has become a hit for Hulu. Despite the recent news that Letterkenny season 12 will be the last, the franchise isn’t slowing down.

Deadline confirms that Keeso has struck a multi-year deal with Crave and New Metric Media, including “49 episodes of Letterkenny spinoffs including Shoresy and other potential shows across several years.” What’s notable about the deal and the first of its kind, according to Crave Content Development & Programming VP Justin Stockman, is that it doesn’t prevent Keeso from making projects for other platforms, unlike most exclusive Hollywood deals. Stockman described the agreement as “probably the only deal that has ever been done like this in Canada.”

Why Letterkenny Is Ending With Season 12?

In an interview with BellMedia, Keeso spoke about the ending of Letterkenny. The star and creator said in part that the comedy was special to him, as it represents a lot of firsts. He also indicated a desire to go out on a high note. Keeso added caveats, noting that Letterkennty characters could potentially appear in Shoresy and that there may even be a follow-up movie.

The creator’s new deal offers more context on how the franchise could continue, with the reporting mentioning that the new agreement takes into account Shoresy, with 18 episodes for that show, plus others, produced per year. Stockman cautions these are loose terms, meaning that the specifics may change. Overall, however, the programming executive points to the devotion of the Letterkenny audience.
