LEGO’s Next Game After Skywalker Saga Should Focus On A New Franchise

LEGO’s Next Game After Skywalker Saga Should Focus On A New Franchise

After the success of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, TT Games will likely be shifting attention to its next LEGO project, which should be a brand-new franchise, rather than another update of an old one. TT Games’ latest LEGO Star Wars game is chock full of impressive achievements, such as making LEGO Skywalker Saga‘s Rise of Skywalker story fun. Undoubtedly the biggest LEGO game yet, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has left many feeling excited over the future of the LEGO games franchise and wondering which popular film or television franchise might be the next one to get the Skywalker Saga treatment. With a host of new mechanics, including shooting mechanics, an over-the-shoulder camera, new vehicle and ship mechanics, and more, there are far more possibilities than ever before for TT Games to accurately recreate gamers’ favorite franchise films and shows.

While it would certainly be possible for TT Games to make more excellent Star Wars games that focus on the spinoff films and Disney+ shows, this may not be the studio’s best move. While Skywalker Saga shouldn’t end the LEGO Star Wars franchise, the next installment should focus on a different series. After all, some franchises and stories that were likely too hard to adapt prior to LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga‘s gameplay innovations might now be far more within reach. One option would be for TT Games to revisit an old franchise that it hasn’t worked on in a while. Series such as Harry PotterIndiana JonesLord of the Rings, and others could benefit dramatically from both the new gameplay mechanics and the new open-world structure.

It would definitely be great to revisit one of these old franchises, especially as the respective games are now growing a bit dated. LEGO Skywalker Saga‘s improved shooter mechanics could greatly improve Indiana Jones’ battles against Nazis and treasure hunters in a new LEGO Indiana Jones game, while the new melee combo system could make LEGO Lord of the Rings‘ giant battles more epic and fun to play. However, there are still several major film and television franchises that have been completely unexplored that would make for perfect installments in TT Games’ LEGO games. Additionally, focusing on a new franchise would allow TT Games to tell its stories without drawing comparisons to how those stories were portrayed in previous games.

LEGO Star Trek Can Explore Strange New Worlds

LEGO’s Next Game After Skywalker Saga Should Focus On A New Franchise

After TT Games’ successful adaptation of Star WarsLEGO Star Trek would be a logical next step for the franchise to take, especially considering the innovations to LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga‘s Galaxy Map. But there are many reasons as to why Star Trek would be a perfect fit for the LEGO Games. It features a huge cast of iconic characters that would be fun to see in Minifigure form, there is a wealth of ships and vehicles that could be shown off in LEGO builds, and the universe is vast and rich with lore, making it perfect for an open-world oriented game. There are also plenty of stories to adapt. While the easy choice may be to adapt the Abrams’ Kelvin Trilogy (especially with a fourth film likely on the way), it might be more interesting to explore some of the shows. For instance, a first LEGO Star Trek could follow the three seasons of the Star Trek: The Original Series along with its accompanying films, while another could explore the crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

By focusing on one of these Star Trek eras per game, a potential LEGO Star Trek could avoid LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga‘s hubs breaking canon issue. The game could use the U.S.S. Enterprise as its main hub, moving it around to different planets in a similar way to LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga‘s capital ships. Since character abilities won’t have as much range as the ones from LEGO Star WarsLEGO Star Trek could employ a gadgets system that functions similarly to the spell system in LEGO Harry Potter, having players unlock new gadgets that can solve puzzles. The only big issue when it comes to a potential LEGO Star Trek is that LEGO has never released a Star Trek set, having never procured the rights. However, this may not extend to video games, and could give Star Trek fans the LEGO versions of Kirk, Spock, and Picard that they have always wanted.

LEGO Disney Can Bring The Studio’s Magic To LEGO Games

The Lego Disney Princess crew

LEGO and Disney are such a perfect fit that it’s almost surprising a LEGO Disney game doesn’t already exist. Both are kid oriented, and Disney has plenty of figures that could put LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga‘s funniest characters to shame using a perfect blend of classic Disney humor. The two companies also have a history of working together, with both LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Marvel using Disney owned characters, and several physical LEGO sets featuring characters from classic Disney films. The game could blend together characters and stories from multiple animated Disney classics, including the Golden Age, Renaissance, and even the more modern CG films. This would not only give Disney fans a chance to relive many of their childhood favorite moments, but also create unlikely team-ups Flynn Rider and Esmerelda or Aladdin and Sword in the Stone‘s Merlin.

The free roam world in a potential LEGO Disney could work in a similar fashion to the world of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2, which featured a worldwide event that got several places from different universes stuck together, making one big city call Chronopolis. A similar storyline in LEGO Disney would allow for a free roam world that can blend together iconic locations such as Frozen‘s Arendelle and Peter Pan‘s Neverland. Disney’s vast selection of characters with a wide range of abilities could make for a perfect playable roster. Acrobatic characters like Aladdin and Quasimodo can climb and swing on poles, while characters that can talk to animals like Aurora and Arielle can translate what animals are saying, much in the same way C-3P0 can in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

LEGO Avatar: The Last Airbender Game Could Be Perfect

The main cast of Avatar The Last Airbender

Another beloved animated franchise, Avatar: The Last Airbender seems ripe for a new video game adaptation. LEGO and Avatar would fit together perfectly, and the game could use LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga‘s class system to showcase the series’ elemental abilities. Players could upgrade their bending powers of their favorite element while working to get Aang, the Avatar, through the show’s various elemental nations. Because the show follows a typical epic quest format that brings the group of heroes through the entire land, it would make for an easy transition into a free roam world, where players can stop and complete side quests or explore the world as they continue on in their adventure. The varying styles and cultures of each nation would also make for an interesting and varied open world.

While Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s spinoff series, The Legend of Korra, has received a solid video game adaptation in 2014, the original show hasn’t seen a game adaptation since 2007. The LEGO series has always been known to provide excellent adaptations on beloved stories, such as LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga‘s best episodes, and would be the ideal series to give Avatar: The Last Airbender a video game comeback. With LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga‘s many gameplay, graphical, and design improvements over the previous games in the series, there is no limit to which popular franchises could be adapted next. Hopefully, the game’s success will indicate more to come.
