LEGO Super Mario Is Calling For Luigi After Update & It’s Kinda Creepy

The Super Mario Bros. franchise includes some of the most beloved characters out in video games. Mario is adorable, fun, but some fans have discovered a rather creepy feature on a LEGO toy. An electronic LEGO Mario toy has begun crying out for his iconic counterpart and brother, Luigi, unprompted. The strangest part about it all is that there’s no Luigi toy to go along with this LEGO line, making it a bit unnerving that he’d be calling out for something that doesn’t technically exist.

Plenty of fans of the Italian plumber have been met with confusion lately, especially after RIP Mario was trending online. Nintendo removed the recently released Super Mario 3D All-Stars from the Nintendo Switch eShop and stopped distributing new copies of the game on March 31, 2021. It was a strange move but fans knew that it was coming. What wasn’t expected, thought, was a LEGO Mario figure crying out for his brother at random.

Fans began reporting that their electronic LEGO Mario dolls were asking for Luigi after a firmware update, according to a Eurogamer report. The LEGO Mario figure released last year and has various interactive features, such as a treasure hunt. It seems something went wrong in the latest update. Fans aren’t sure what to make of it, but LEGO has commented on the matter. “Now that’s a very creative way to get his missing brother. We did notice that Lego Mario has started calling for him, we’re looking into it and hope to have clarity on why this is soon. Stay tuned,” said a LEGO rep.

It’s possible that this is a marketing campaign for a new, unannounced LEGO Luigi, or it could be a mistake. Perhaps this is a feature for when LEGO does release a Luigi doll. If a LEGO Luigi is released, perhaps Mario will call out when the two brothers are a certain distance from each other. In that case, it may have accidentally got put in the latest firmware update. More will likely be revealed soon if this is a tease, although it seems that this was a simple mistake.

Other Mario toys are on the way, such as a Hot Wheels set based on Mario Kart’s Rainbow Road. The set is expected to launch this summer, so perhaps there will be new lines of toys based on the popular Nintendo icon releasing soon that will pave the way for a LEGO Luigi. Either way, it’s certainly a bit creepy to hear a toy calling out for its lost fictional brother at random.
