LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga To Finally Reappear At Gamescom

After plenty of silence, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will make an appearance at Gamescom Opening Night Live later this month. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was announced back in 2019, just prior to the release of The Rise of Skywalker with an expected 2020 release date, though unforeseen circumstances seemingly prevented that from happening. Instead, LEGO Star Wars was slated for spring 2021, but was sadly delayed out of that window as well. That said, perhaps there’s a chance it could release this holiday season.

As of right now, there’s no release window for the game and it seems the team is flying under the radar until it has more to share. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is meant to encompass all nine films into one package with some open world elements as well. Although the team at Traveler’s Tales has made other games based on these films, the developer will not be remastering these titles. Instead, it has opted to basically remake all of these games with new mechanics, full voiceover work, and much more.

On Twitter, Geoff Keighley confirmed fans will get a proper look at LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25. It’s unclear if this will be a short demo of the game or if it’s just a new trailer, but fans are hopeful that a release date for the long-awaited game will be shared at the event. Whether it releases in time for the holiday season or becomes a 2022 game remains to be seen, but at least the wait won’t be much longer.

As of right now, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is only meant to include the nine mainline films and not the spin-off movies or TV shows that have released over the last few years. That said, there’s a chance these could happen via DLC at a later date. The new LEGO Star Wars will include hundreds of characters as is, so there’s also a possibility characters like The Mandalorian will pop up as playable characters, even if they aren’t part of the narrative of the game.

It’s entirely possible part of the delay was due to how the team had to incorporate The Rise of Skywalker into the game. In an interview with DualShockers in 2019, the developers noted they were only given bits and pieces of information from the film before its release and likely would have to wait until they saw the finished film to integrate it. Regardless of the cause of this long delay, fans may not have to wait much longer to finally get their hands on LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
