LEGO Star Wars Announces First Ever Phantom Menace Diorama As Part Of 25th Anniversary Celebrations

The LEGO Group is celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace with the movie’s first-ever diorama set. A fairly new kind of LEGO model from the galaxy far, far away, dioramas are built more for display than play, depicting some of the most epic and iconic moments from the Star Wars franchise. However, those that have been released thus far have exclusively been from the original trilogy of films.

Now, LEGO Star Wars has officially revealed the first look as Mos Espa Podrace (75380). Set to release on May 1st just ahead of Star Wars Day (May the Fourth), the new prequel diorama will consist of 718 pieces, depicting young Anakin Skywalker’s legendary podrace on Tatooine as he races through desert canyons while being neck-and-neck with Sebulba. Mos Espa Podrace Diorama is available on LEGO.com May 1st.

As impressive as Mos Espa Podrace is, it’s not the only Phantom Menace-inspired model LEGO is about to release. They’ll also be releasing the previously revealed Darth Maul’s Sith Infiltrator (78353) as well as another unique set that’s just been officially revealed: Droideka (73181).

Droideka is available on LEGO.com May 1st.

Also set for an almost Star Wars Day release, Droideka (75381) will consist of 583 pieces, continuing the relatively newer trend of larger droid sets in recent years. Having made their debut in The Phantom Menace, Droidekas aka Destroyer Droids were creations of the Trade Federation which could fold and ross for fast travel towards their targets. They could then unfold and activate personal shield generators, making it incredibly hard for opposing forces to oppose them with blasters alone. As such, this new LEGO model will be able to fold down into its “ball form” as well.

Joining the already impressive list of Star Wars LEGO sets releasing in 2024, these newly revealed sets in particular are perfect for those looking to celebrate both Star Wars Day as well as The Phantom Menace’s 25th anniversary this year. However, there are also quite a few sets that celebrate LEGO’s 25th anniversary with the Star Wars franchise overall. At any rate, both sets will be available on May 1st and will more than likely apply toward LEGO’s annual Star Wars Day sales (and gifts with purchase).
