LEGO Releases Giant Captain America’s Shield Set, 3000 Pieces & Two-Thirds As Big As The Real Thing

Captain America’s shield has become one of the most iconic symbols of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since it debuted in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger and a new LEGO set allows Marvel fans to have their own replica. Captain America’s shield has gone on as much of a journey as the man who originally wielded it, Steve Rogers. It was frozen in ice with him, and salvaged when he was rescued. Then Steve carried it through most of his modern-day adventures before passing on the shield to Sam Wilson at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Sam will next appear with the shield in Captain America: New World Order.

LEGO has unveiled a new set for Captain America’s shield as part of The Infinity Saga line of Marvel models. The Captain America’s shield set is currently available for pre-sale at $199.99 and will start shipping on Aug. 1. It contains 3,128 pieces and, once constructed, sits at 18.5 inches in diameter.

LEGO has labeled the Captain America’s shield set as 18+, meaning it’s for adult enthusiasts who want to construct the model. Further, the set comes with a stand on which the shield can be presented once it’s constructed, featuring a nameplate with the LEGO logo, The Infinity Saga logo and Captain America’s name.

Captain America’s Shield Is Still Important In The MCU’s Multiverse Saga

Although Steve Rogers has officially retired from being Captain America, the mantle and the shield live on in Sam Wilson. The Phase 4 TV show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier saw Sam confronting what it meant for a Black man to be Captain America in modern-day, initially giving the shield to the U.S. government. However, when they named John Walker the new Captain America, it set Sam on a path that would see him reclaim both the title and shield. The series ended with Sam getting a new Captain America costume to go with the shield.

Sam Wilson will next lead his first solo movie in Captain America: New World Order, which is scheduled to hit theaters in May 2024. It will be the first true test of the MCU’s legacy characters, with Sam being the first to adopt an original Avenger’s mantle and lead a new solo project without the previous actor. To go along with the new movie, Anthony Mackie was seen donning a new costume in Captain America 4 set photos and videos, which may point to Sam losing the white vibranium suit he was given by the Wakandans at the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

If Wakanda is reclaiming their vibranium, it may be that they take Captain America’s shield from Sam in addition to the suit. While that’s only speculation, if New World Order‘s storyline does deal with Wakanda and vibranium, the Captain America shield will no doubt be part of the conversation. No matter what happens in the upcoming MCU movie, Captain America’s shield is expected to factor into it, continuing the symbol’s legacy that began all the way back in Captain America: The First Avenger.
