Legend Of The White Dragon’s Trailer Promises Ultimate Power Rangers Fan Film

To say the Power Rangers movies made to date have been disappointing is an understatement, but Legend Of The White Dragon looks set to buck that trend with a trailer that promises the ultimate Power Rangers fan film. Today, the uber-successful Power Rangers franchise includes everything from toys and video games to a comic book line featuring different series published by graphic novel giants like Image Comics and Marvel. The franchise’s best known output is, of course, its long-running TV show which began in 1993 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and has produced 27 seasons so far.

Whatever magic has kept the Power Rangers TV series going for so many years hasn’t translated to the big screen, unfortunately. The franchise has spawned three feature films to date; Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie in 1995, Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie in 1997, and most recently, the 2017 Power Rangers reboot. While Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie did decent business it got terrible reviews, while the 2017 reboot was an almighty box office bomb.

The trailer for fan film Legend Of The White Dragon, however, suggests the Power Rangers fandom might finally get the movie they deserve. Although the Legend Of The White Dragon trailer doesn’t tout the film as a Power Rangers property, the franchise is a clear inspiration. It features original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers cast members Jason David Frank – as a character that’s an obvious nod to his White Ranger role – and Johnny Young Bosch alongside fellow franchise stars Jason Faunt and Ciara Hanna and is set in a city known as Angel Graves (a reference to the Power Rangers’ universe setting of Angel Grove) that was decimated by a great battle. The Legend Of The White Dragon trailer was created by production company Bat in the Sun. Co-founded by Aaron Schoenke and his dad Sean, Bat in the Sun are experts in fan film production responsible for movies including City Of ScarsSeeds Of Arkham and the web series Super Power Beat Down. The trailer is part of a Kickstarter project intended to fund a feature-length version of Legend Of The White Dragon that’s supported entirely by Power Rangers enthusiasts. Basically, it’s the ultimate Power Rangers fan film in the making.

Bat in the Sun’s Kickstarter campaign reached its funding goal of $500,000 in May 2020, so it looks like Legend Of The White Dragon will become a reality. A brand-new Power Rangers reboot set in the 1990s is reportedly in the works at Paramount too but judging by the performance of past Power Rangers movies, Legend Of The White Dragon could well prove to be the superior film.
