Left 4 Dead 2’s First Update In 8 Years Releases THIS WEEK

Left 4 Dead 2 is about to receive its first content update in eight years, a massive community-developed campaign The Last Stand. After being briefly teased back in August, the update has finally received proper details and a release date.

The Last Stand was announced at the end of August via a short teaser showcasing a familiar environment from an eponymous community-created survival map for the original Left 4 Dead. The map was eventually modded into Left 4 Dead 2, but it is now coming to the game as an official update. Recently, it has been treated with yet another short video, this time featuring some dynamic footage with Bill Overbeck retrieving a fire ax from a zombie’s corpse.

The latest details have emerged on the Left 4 Dead official website revealing the exact release date of The Last Stand update, which is expected to come out on Steam next week, on September 24. This new campaign, developed by the passionate Left 4 Dead community, will only be available for PC unfortunately skipping the Xbox 360 version of the game. The Last Stand was created by roughly three dozens fans working tightly with Valve to bring a new batch of exciting content to the 11-year-old title. Not only the update offers a whole new campaign and 20 new survival maps for players to enjoy, but it also introduces a couple of new mutations and melee weapons among other additions. All the improvements and changes are listed in the new trailer featuring lots of gameplay footage as well.

Left 4 Dead 2: The Last Stand is a fantastic treat for the long-time fans of one of the most influential zombie shooters on the market. While there’re no signs of Left 4 Dead 3 being officially developed even though Valve is finally back to making video games, the original team behind the franchise from Turtle Rock is hard at work reimagining the initial concept by creating a spiritual successor to the series – a new co-op zombie action titled Back 4 Blood. The game is expected to utilize the core mechanics of Left 4 Dead and elevate the experience to a whole new level with the help of modern technologies.

The unexpected announcement and approaching release of Left 4 Dead 2: The Last Stand might signal that Valve is considering a bigger return to the fan-favorite franchise. Although the upcoming update is only happening thanks to community efforts, there could be more in store waiting to be revealed. Hopefully, The Last Stand’s performance and stats will be high enough to convince Valve that there’s a reasonable demand for Left 4 Dead 3.

Left 4 Dead 2: The Last Stand releases on September 24 for PC.
