League of Their Own Reboot Gets August 2022 Release Date

Prime Video’s A League of Their Own reboot series sets a release date. Helmed by the late Penny Marshall, the 1992 film A League of Their Own was inspired by the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. The film A League of Their Own stars Geena Davis, Madonna, Rosie O’Donnell, and Tom Hanks as the alcoholic, disgruntled team manager Jimmy Dugan. In 2020, Amazon announced it would reboot A League of Their Own into a series. Created by Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson (Broad City), the adaptation will evoke the spirit of Marshall’s film while focusing on a different group of women in baseball.

Per Prime Video, A League of Their Own will release on August 12, 2022. Starring Jacobson, D’Arcy Carden, Chanté Adams, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Kate Berlant,  and Nick Offerman, A League of Their Own will place a scope on the Rockford Peaches as they tackle sexuality, racism, and their love for baseball. On Friday, August 12, Amazon will debut all eight episodes of the baseball drama.

Graham and Jacobson’s fresh take on the original film could reignite the importance of that pivotal time in history for women to a new generation. Despite numerous production delays due to the pandemic, A League of Their Own is finally ready to rope in a new audience come August. Stemming from the creative hands of Jacobson, toting a talented cast, and reimaging the beloved classic film, A League of Their Own could be a home run for Amazon. The reboot of A League of Their Own debuts on Amazon on Friday, August 12.
