Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12 continues to drop references to Seinfeld’s finale, setting up the potential for a sitcom reunion that last happened in 2009. Though Curb Your Enthusiasm has always included various references to Seinfeld as it remains Larry David’s most famous sitcom creation, the callbacks curiously have appeared even more frequently throughout the HBO comedy’s final season. After Curb’s season 12 premiere seemed to tease a repeat of Seinfeld’s series finale, nearly each subsequent episode has also mentioned David’s Seinfeld career, classic Seinfeld episodes, or former crew members from the show.

Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12, episode 2 ended with the news that Larry would be going to trial after being arrested for giving Ellia English’s Auntie Rae a water bottle in an Atlanta voting line. This further supported the theory that Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12 could conclude with Larry’s old rivals returning for his trial, possibly sending him to prison like Seinfeld’s main characters in the 1998 finale episode. Now, with more Curb characters explicitly making references to Larry’s work on Seinfeld’s divisive ending, the HBO comedy is building up to the potential for Jerry Seinfeld to return as a “witness” in season 12.
Larry David Just Made Those Seinfeld Series Finale Redo Theories Way More Likely
A throwaway line in Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12, episode 4 suggests that Larry David really is building to a redo of the divisive Seinfeld finale.
Jerry Seinfeld hasn’t appeared on Curb Your Enthusiasm since 2009’s season 7 finale, so his possible return for the final season was been widely hoped for. Though no confirmation of Jerry Seinfeld’s return has been made, it seems unlikely that season 12 would include so many Seinfeld references without bringing back the sitcom’s co-creator. Jerry Seinfeld returning without the rest of Seinfeld’s main cast would still work given he and David co-created the sitcom, but the teases would be better fulfilled by also bringing back Jason Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Michael Richards for the first time since Curb season 7.
Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12 Could Be The Last Opportunity For A Scripted Seinfeld Reunion
After years without seeing the cast back together, Curb Your Enthusiasm season 7 provided an incredible reunion for David, Seinfeld, Louis-Dreyfus, Alexander, and Richards. This still marks the last time that the original Seinfeld team has worked together in a scripted format, but that could change with Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12. If Seinfeld’s four main actors were to return as witnesses for Larry’s trial in Curb Your Enthusiasm season 12, it would be the perfect way to parody Seinfeld’s finale while potentially providing their last real scripted on-screen reunion.
Though Seinfeld’s actors could still do a Friends-style unscripted reunion special, Curb may be the only way that they can reunite in a fictional, comedic narrative. Seinfeld’s cast currently has no leading roles in comedy TV shows where the other three could all return alongside them on-screen, making Curb the greatest opportunity to accomplish this again. However, with Curb Your Enthusiasm winding down to its final few episodes, the possible ways to fit in a Seinfeld cast reunion are limited.
