After Lance Reddick’s notable performance in Shirley, the actor still has one more upcoming film yet to be released. Reddick plays Wesley McDonald ‘Mac’ Holder in the new film that stars Regina King as Shirley Chisholm, the first black American woman to ever run for President in the United States. Reddick unfortunately passed away just over one year ago on March 17, 2023 at the age of 60 due to heart disease.
Before joining the outstanding cast of Shirley, Reddick had more than 115 professional acting credits to his name. Reddick began his career during the mid-1990s with brief appearances on hit series such as New York Undercover (1996), The Nanny (1997), and The West Wing (1999). Reddick rose to prominence by playing Cedric Daniels in the acclaimed HBO drama The Wire (2002–2008) and Phillip Broyles in the popular Fox series Fringe (2008–2013). He also became a major part of the John Wick franchise, appearing in all four films as Charon.
Lance Reddick’s Final Onscreen Performance Will Be In 2025’s Ballerina
As an integral part of the John Wick franchise, Reddick appeared as Charon in all four John Wick movies, including 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4. This was the first movie Reddick was in that was released posthumously. Reddick will still appear in the highly-anticipated John Wick spinoff Ballerina starring Ana de Armas, which will be his last onscreen appearance on film. Reddick’s performance in Shirley marks the second to-last live action film role of his career.
Ballerina also stars several John Wick regulars in addition to Reddick’s Charon including Ian McShane’s Winston Scott and Keanu Reeves’ titular character. After the film was originally slated for a 2024 release, Ballerina experienced various production delays, including adding more action sequences that started filming in late November 2022. Ballerina is currently scheduled to be released on June 6, 2025.
