Subtle Invincible Line Can Finally Explain The Real Reason Omni-Man First Came To Earth

Invincible‘s season 2’s mid-season finale may have finally Omni-Man’s real motivation for making the voyage to Earth. While the Viltrumites proved that they are the fearsome empire that both Nolan and Allen the Alien said they were, there hasn’t been much backstory regarding why they have picked certain planets to take over in the universe. Now that they’ve finally made their entrance, more details should be revealed in the coming episodes.

The Invincible season 2 part 1 finale “It’s Been A While” started out with Omni-Man and Invincible picking up right where they left off when Omni-Man left Earth after nearly beating his own son to death. What was originally supposed to be about the two hashing out their differences suddenly turned into the two of them fighting off the invading Viltrumites against the Thraxans. With Omni-Man captured by the Viltrumites and Mark ordered to prepare Earth for their takeover, the Viltrumite war is on the horizon. In addition to advancing the conflict, the events of the episode seemingly shed light on why this battle was brought to Earth in the first place.

After Nolan introduced Mark to his half-brother on Thraxa, he explained that he violated Vilrumite procreation rules by interbreeding with a Thraxan. He later added that humans are among the very few species with which a Viltrumite can reproduce because they are genetically similar. This may very well explain why the Viltrumites want to conquer Earth because they can then expand their empire further across the universe by reproducing with the human race.

Part 1 of Invincible’s second season introduced some interesting stories, leaving part 2 with plenty of unanswered questions that it must address.

This makes sense, considering that Viltrumites like Nolan look identical to humans on the outside even though they are exponentially stronger than humans. Nolan may have had Mark as an experiment to see if Viltrumite DNA would mesh with human DNA. The mistake he made was spending too much time on Earth before Mark finally acquired his powers in Invincible.

When Mark stopped holding back, he came within striking distance of killing the Viltrumite Theda before he stopped himself. While Theda took advantage of Mark’s mercy, he still proved to himself that he is capable of taking on someone as powerful as a Viltrumite. Unfortunately, by doing so, the Viltrumites have realized that they were correct all along that breeding with the human species can create nearly full-blooded Viltrumites like Mark. His capabilities serve as further evidence that Earth was a suitable place to carry out their evil plans
