Knives Out 3’s Possible Character Return Gets Honest Response From Glass Onion Star

Knives Out 3’s Possible Character Return Gets Honest Response From Glass Onion Star

After her starring role in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Janelle Monáe provides an honest response regarding whether she will be returning for Knives Out 3. Directed by Rian Johnson, Glass Onion sees Daniel Craig’s detective Benoit Blanc solving a murder on a private island in Greece. The sequel earned mostly positive reviews from critics and a third film is currently in development.

News regarding Knives Out 3 is hard to come by with the film being so early on in development, but Monáe now reveals to ET Canada that audiences probably shouldn’t expect to see her character again. The actor stresses, however, that this wouldn’t be the case if it was up to her. Check out Monáe’s full comment below:

“I would be honored [to do Knives Out 3]. But Rian [Johnson] is not going to cast [you] if you’ve already done ‘Knives Out’ with the exception of Daniel Craig, because he has to be the detective Benoit Blanc that comes in. Maybe I’ll get plastic surgery and I’ll just become a new actor and then I’ll audition and then I’ll get it. I love those murder mysteries.”

What To Expect From Knives Out 3’s Cast

Monáe’s recent comments echo a similar sentiment expressed by Johnson himself, who hinted that actors who have already appeared in either of the first two movies (save for Craig) won’t return for Knives Out 3. This tracks with the director’s general approach for the franchise thus far, with Blanc attempting to solve a new murder with new suspects in a new setting each time. Plus, Johnson also revealed earlier this year that Knives Out 3 will be distinct tonally and thematically from the first two.

As far as the Knives Out 3 cast, then, the only sure thing at the moment is Craig returning as Blanc. Craig himself seems to be having a great time with the franchise and his character, with his Spectre costar Dave Bautista even saying that the former James Bond actor was much more at ease playing Blanc than 007. In addition to Craig, however, the Knives Out movies are known for their eccentric cast of supporting characters.

On top of having a group of bickering suspects, each Knives Out movie has also had one central protagonist figure, such as Ana de Armas’ Marta and Monáe’s Andi. Considering how star-studded both previous installments have been, it’s likely that the cast for the third installment will feature a variety of well-known, acclaimed actors to make up the protagonist and suspects. Many questions remain about Knives Out 3, but it seems like audiences shouldn’t expect to see Andi return.
