Knights of the Old Republic Remake Reportedly Targeting 2023 Release

A new report suggests that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is releasing sometime in 2023. Fans were thinking it may be much further off due to the fact Aspyr didn’t offer a date for the KOTOR remake during the reveal, but it seems like it could be rather imminent. Disney seems to be packing the slate with new Star Wars games from a number of developers, so fans that have felt like there hasn’t been enough AAA Star Wars content likely won’t be disappointed in the coming years.

During the September PlayStation Showcase, Aspyr Media announced the KOTOR remake for PS5. Although details are still scarce, it’s expected to overhaul and modernize the title’s gameplay while keeping the iconic story mostly intact. It’s still unclear just how significant of a change this will be, but it is being classified as a remake rather than a remaster. Aspyr has mostly only made ports of games, so this will be fans’ first opportunity to see what the studio is capable of when left in charge of a game with some more agency.

According to a new report from Bespin Bulletin, Aspyr is aiming to have the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake out by 2023. It’s unclear when the title will release in 2023, and it also seems like the date is not completely locked in. The developer may be allotted some wiggle room, so fans shouldn’t hold their breath until it’s made official. The report also gave additional details on games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 and the upcoming LEGO Star Wars game.

Knights of the Old Republic Remake Reportedly Targeting 2023 Release

It’s unclear just how long Aspyr has been working on the game, but there have been rumors of its existence for quite some time. It’s possible a 2023 release would allow the developer about three to four years of development, which should be ample time for a remake of a game that already has the story largely laid out. Aspyr has yet to share any gameplay or screenshots for the game, so fans are still unsure of what shape the KOTOR remake will take.

New rumors also suggest the KOTOR remake will have new play styles, which will break away from the turn-based combat in the original game. It certainly sounds like Aspyr is making some dramatic changes, but it remains to be seen if these changes will be for the better. Star Wars fans are known to be quite protective over the franchise, but Disney seems to have placed a lot of trust in the developer for the Knights of the Old Republic remake.
